    Hi guys,

So after 6 months of applying online, sending in resumes, and visiting school after school... I finally got an interview at a school! :woot: It was yesterday and it went great! The second one is tomorrow morning, I'm nervous but they are pretty desperate to hire since school starts on the 7th so I have a good feeling about this one..
MORE good news: a school that I interviewed with 5 weeks ago just called me today and told me that the person they hired didn't work out and that I was the 2nd runner-up so they want to meet with me tomorrow afternoon to further discuss the position. This position is a long-term sub job (4 months) with the potential of becoming permanent for the 2011-2012 school year. I would MUCH MUCH rather work for this school than the other, but the other is a permanent position. It's not a bad school, just not my first choice.
I haven't even been offered a position at EITHER school, but if that's the case... then what do I do?? Take the perm 2nd choice, or risk it with my 1st choice?? I'd hate to start from square 1 again next summer with the job hunting, and we all know what a grueling market it is right now... but I just see myself so much happier at the temp. school! Help! :help:

I would go for the long-term sub position because 1) you're already their best candidate 2) it's the district you want to work for, and 3) there's potential for a permanent position for the next school year. Those sounds like good enough reasons for me :) Goodluck!

I'd go with the permanent position. With so many budget cuts, a "chance" for a permanent position really doesn't mean anything.

Tough call! I took a job at a school but didn't sign a contract. The the next day I was offered a job at what I thought was my Dream School. Ha! Worst 2 years of my life...admin was micro-managy and we had zero freedom. But you know what? I wouldn't change a thing. Now that I'm at another school I can fully appreciate the great staff and admin and bask in the glow of freedom ;)

I guess I'm trying to say that the 1st school might end up being the lesser one and to be cautious.

    GOOD LUCK!!!

I would also take the permanent position.

Pisces_Fish makes a *very* good point. In the past I believed that my current district is my ideal district to work for, but now that I can compare the area/schools/staff with other districts, it's not looking as 'ideal' as I originally believed it to be.

Thanks guys. I probably just jinxed myself, lol. I'm so excited for tomorrow, I can't wait! This just goes to show that last minute interviews DO exist! I've had 2 interviews plus a phone interview these past 3 days. I'll keep you posted!

    Similar Situation

I am in a very similar situation. I have already accepted and started (well not with kids yet but we had a teacher workday) a leave replacement position. This position is until the end of Novemberish (unless of course she doesn't come back after maternity).

Today, I have 2 interviews for full year leave replacements in 2 separate districts.

Next Wednesday (second day of school) I have a round 2 demo for a probationary position.

I told my principal I needed off for a demo for a probationary position. She completely understood and told me, "hey, you gotta do what's best for you."

Keep that line in your head for all your decisions! Hopefully we will both have some success stories to post later on!

I was at a district for 14 years. The grass was not greener on the other side...even though it looked it. I hate my current school. I want to go back to my old district. I love the grade I am teaching, but I would be willing to teach anything to leave. I think I would go with the one that offered me the job...good luck...I hope that this is a "problem" and you have a choice.

In this economy, I would take the permanent job for now...if you don't like it, you can always search again next year. :)

I got offered BOTH positions!! I'm so happy I could cry! :)
I accepted the offer from.....drumroll please.....

the permanent position!! :p After meeting more of the staff and a few of the students during my demo - I changed my mind. I'm on my way to HR right now to get my papers in order.

Thanks everyone!! I thought it was hopeless at this point, but districts are scrambling now to fill positions.... I just received a call from a charter school! Thats THREE districts in the past 2 days!

Thanks everyone! Glad I took your advice! I LOVE this forum!
