    OH MY GOODNESS, y'all!

So, here I am, at 11 o'clock on a Saturday evening, at home, browsing the internet and looking at random things...I was about to shut down my laptop, but just checked my e-mail out of habit. I noticed I had two messages in my spam box and since lately a lot of e-mails I've received from former co-workers of the district I worked for this past school year have been sent to the spam box, I am double checking it to make sure I'm getting any e-mails that may be from school districts. So...one of the e-mails in the spam box is from a principal of a local charter school asking me if I'd like to come in next week to interview for a pre-k position! Yippee! I just recently "found" this charter school...I've read some of y'all's advice about expanding job searches to include charter and private schools, which really never occured to me. I learned of this particular charter school because it was one of the local schools closed due to the swine flu so I learned about it on the local news. I immediately got on my computer and researched the charter school to see if it was "doable." So, the website of the charter school had a posting stating that they're seeking K-5 teachers for the 2009-2010 school year so with that, I was super happy to send a cover letter and resume...thinking that a charter school may be more open to me being a new teacher and yada yada. So, I just sent my cover letter and resume to the principal this past Monday. Yesterday afternoon, the charter school posted that they're seeking a pre-k teacher for the 2009-2010 school year and I knew that I just had to resend a cover letter and resume to the principal even though I had just sent one this past Monday. I started thinking that I'd revamp my cover letter to the Jimmy Sweeney style and hopefully, I'd really catch her attention with it. A couple hours ago, I just finished revamping my cover letter and had it all ready to be sent to the principal, but, apparently, my old cover letter did the trick! Eek! I'm so happy!

From the website, the charter school looks like a super nice school, it's in an unbelievably ideal location, and it pays just as much as the highest paying school district in the area.

The interview is on Wednesday at 11 AM. I'm sure I'll be going up against a lot of other candidates since the Austin area is saturated (sounds ridiculous saying this since EVERY area is saturated). Of course I'll spend my time from now until Wednesday, prepping for the interview - interview questions-wise, but I really want to create a little brochure. I don't have enough experience to have created a full-blown portfolio, but I think a brochure is doable.

Ok, I've rambled enough now. :haha:

Oh my gosh! You're so excited and I know that enthusiasm will shine through. I'd worry more about studying up on the school and Pre-k curriculum than I would messing with a brochure.

You go girl!! I'm rooting for you:) :thumb:

    Thanks, y'all!

I feel really comfortable with pre-k since my minor was ECE and I also briefly taught pre-k last school year. I have no major worries about what I'd be teaching and my students. I've spent a good hour this morning investigating the school's website and reading the school's charter. I know my major "issue" will be speaking about everything I believe in - sometimes I just can't get the words out.

Seeking jobs at charters and public schools is a great idea that not all job candidates will know to do/care to do. You have done your homework on the school, which is definitely a smart way to go into the interview. Good for you!! Be excited, passionate, smile and speak confidently on your interview. You'll be great!

    Thanks y'all!

I feel an inner peace about this interview. I can't really say I'm nervous whatsoever. I have my outfit ready, my new spiffy little brochure and other info in a nice folder to give to the principal, and I've reviewed potential interview questions. I think part of the reason why I feel inner peace and confidence about this interview is for the reason that I love early childhood education and really think that shines through when I speak with someone about it. Thinking positives thoughts!

    Hey y'all.

I'm glad with how the interview went. I feel positive about it because I was myself and I feel that I really showed my passion for early childhood education. I spoke about my desire to do journaling with emerging readers and writers and I think the principal enjoyed hearing me speak about it. She mentioned that she's interviewing other candidates for the position and I can' remember her exact wording about when she'd make a decision, but she used the words, "near future".

I learned last year when interviewing that there's no point in trying to figure out if I'll be hired or not because there's really just no telling. Last year, after the interview for the job that I ended up being hired for, I didn't really think I would be hired, and was shocked to receive a call a couple hours after the interview with an offer. Basically, one can never know. All I can do is be myself and hope that I feel positive about the interview.

Thanks again for all the well wishes!

    Me too!!!!

emma, sounds like it went well! I'll be keeping my fingers crossed and praying for good news soon. I've also quit trying to gauge my chances from how the interviews went. The job that I got two years ago I didn't think I would get because I didn't think I did that well; however, there have been interviews where I thought I knocked it out of the water just to find out I didn't get the job. You just never can tell.
