The young one was an alternate. They may have felt, with Plushenko, Russia had a shot at winning medals, not just giving someone experience.

Plushenko had a sore back going into the team event, aggravated it during Wednesday's warm up, and it was too late to put in the alternate according to an article in the NYDailyNews.

Seems Russia wanted to go for medals.

Hindsight is an interesting thing. If Plushenko could have pulled it off, no one would have been comparing.

While I'm cheering for another team, I do love that two of my Toronto Maple Leafs are key players for the U.S.

While I appreciate that the Costa Rican showing of the Olympics is showing lots of the athletes who will not place, I sort of prefer to see the ones that will. The Argentinian who got 23rd in slalom is not really that exciting.

    I loved watching this!!

If the US can't do well in an event, I cheer for Canada next. :)

I'm a huge sports fan... but the only Olympic sports I ever go out of my way to watch are figure skating and gymnastics. I'd never watch either outside of the olympics, but I can't get enough of it during the Olympics. It's cool seeing other "weird" sports like curling too, though.

Agreed. I was not surprised in the least to see an "injury"... unfortunate that his "injury" couldn't come on before it was too late for him to be replaced...

I don't have cable so I can't watch the Olympics. Does anyone know if there is live streaming available?

Try ustvnow.com you need to sign up. But then you can live stream NBC.

I also use watchfromny.net which is really sketchy, but works way better than USTVnow. Lots of pop up ads and tricky ways to get you to click on things so be smart. Also, some people reported being told they had to put in a credit card number to watch. Obviously, don't do that. I was not prompted to do so and I think it's because I have a USA VPN.

Just watched the bobsled run. They didn't show any of the top 10 places. But I did get to see Jamaica! And man were the announcers excited about Jamaica!

I'm sorry to all my American friends, but it looks like you're keeping Bieber.

Darn. That "worst bet ever" billboard is pretty funny though.

(Not Olympic related, but a few weeks ago this was on my Facebook feed: Someone posted the link for a petition to deport Bieber. My cousin's aunt (I'm on her mom's side and this aunt is on her dad's side) commented: We should deport Miley Cyrus, too! My thoughts: *shakes head* *facepalm* Miley Cyrus is AMERICAN so that would be pretty impossible. *sigh*)
