What do you think about them so far?
I usually make fun of them (too artistic for me to understand or something), but I'm loving it so far!
The music is kind of scary to me...I don't know why. It is pretty interesting though!
I like the music when the rings lit up in the sky. That part is pretty cool. I am a few minutes behind everyone...
We're going to DVR it since I think we might go out with some friends for dinner. I really wish that it would have aired live. I don't like the time delay, not when there are so many channels that could be showing it.
I'm liking it so far.
Not a big fan of these sort of productions.
Love the visuals but not the commentary.
Best ever - now that Mr. Bean is in charge!
I can say for certain I am not a fan...
West coaster....still have to wait a little over an hour
Very theatrical for sure. I have to admit, I loved the James Bond bit. As beautiful as it all is, though, I have trouble not thinking of all the money involved. So many needing help and doing without...I'm trying not to focus on that.
I just turned it on...so far I'm a little weirded out by all of the different music, but we'll see if I like it more later
Not at all what I would have predicted; a little disappointed so far.
Christy, that is exactly what I always think! That's what I meant (but didn't say) when I said I don't like this sort of production...just too, too much.
I agree with others about the commentary...they have insulted it a few times, and I even though I don't like the program, it's rude to the host country to criticize it on televsion (in my opinion).
Missy~I am too. I do have to say: loved hearing the band Muse in there and seeing David Beckham.
They were talking about the money involved beforehand. The mayor is hoping by bringing the Olympics to London that it jumpstarts the economy again, and one reason David Beckham is playing such a huge role is to bring money to the East End where he grew up.
The commentary is pretty dull. I like how they are including some American things...like Bill Cosby show and Wayne's world.
Into the Parade of Nations. I always adore the tradition (read: lack of weirdness).
I enjoyed it, for the most part, until they got to the contemporary section at the end. I thought it was ind of odd that they had such a big tribute to the NHS, though.
The parade of nations is on now. They all look so thrilled!
I love seeing their faces when they come in!
scary given current US politics...
The parade of nations is what I'm waiting for. It's always my favorite part.
Wondering if Meredith will keep quiet when Bob Costas observes a moment of silence when Israel comes in.
cza~I haven't heard her through any of the parade of nations so far....Maybe it's just the two men?
She weighs in occasionally... I'm hoping they all keep quiet.
So did anyone catch this?
Yeah...mention of the IOC refusal for moment and then cut to commercials...cowards.
Missed it, mike. What was that?
It happened during the German entrance.
Oh, and this made me chuckle:
Could it be he's waving? He's using his left arm...but the still photo is disturbing..
I don't know if they actually showed this on NBC.
Was this frozen mid wave?
I found it interesting that the commentators were discussing how Saudi Arabia sent women for the first time but then didn't do a close up of them.
I like seeing the countries...but man, there are a lot!
Glad to see Anthony Davis as I was specifically looking for him. And I like Paul, so that was nice.
They had me right up to the time where they played tribute to the NHS and the rappers and young people taking over the house partying. I never got into it after that.
The Chinese at Beijing ruined it for all future opening ceremonies. How to match that?
I was wondering about that. I figured it was something that SA requested?
Ross~it's going to be very hard to top those Bejing ceremonies.

Bejing 2008 > London 2012
I wish they would skip right to the athletes coming in. I don't really get interested until that part.
I LOVED the Queen's entrance!!
