Oh man, this was way harder than it looks. This is my first art attempt in a LOOOOOONG time and I've never been much of a water color person. I am more of a sketch with pencil or charcoal. Anyways, I will NOT give up. I actually had fun. THis took me about 10 minutes from start to finish. I see some things that need shadowing. Boy, I could not get the darn clouds right so I just painted the whole sky blue. In real life, it actually looks a lot better than it does on the computer.
Okay, I added some more shadows where it needed it. I messed up on the tree part. BLEH! THis is hard. Maybe I'll stick with charcoal thank you very much.
Hahaha, it looks like my tree is floating in the air. I think I'll fix that part. Man, I needed this. I need to paint. Now that I am done with summer school, I can finally relax and enjoy my little bit of summer vacation!! Thanks shelly, you're too kind!!!! Really!!!!
Peachy, yes, that would be interesting & fun to see & if you do it, I'll be taking out my camera to take pics of what I have so far!
I think I'll just admire everyone else's artwork; no one would be interested in seeing my stick figures!
Watercolors are tough, Peach- have you taken a class? I do some oil painting which is tough enough but watercolors can be unforgiving. Good for you!!
Nice! You're making me want to get my paints out! It has been YEARS since I did more than a quick demo with my kiddos... hmmmmmm... it's supposed to rain the middle of next week and they will be waxing the hallway floors at school....
Have you tried watercolor pencils? It's an easy introduction to watercolors. I just did a great picture to give as a wedding gift and used the pencils. you can blend them like paint or leave them dry for more vibrant colors. Kim
I was sketching out a website for my student to approve, and I tried to draw a monkey. Later I mentioned that I would do the art for her site, and she looked at me very worried. She whispered, very seriously, her eyes full of fear, 'Someone else will draw the monkey, right??'. Sigh.
I've never taken a watercolor class, although I would love to! I've taken many other art classes, but never had time to take one in watercolor. Hmmm, maybe I'll look into it. Thanks for that idea!
Kim, I actual do have the water color pencils but I have no idea how to use them. When I used them in the past, it was only a disaster. Maybe I'll try it again. Do you have any pointers? Do you first color with the dry pencils first and then paint over it, do you wet the paper and then draw on it?? I just don't know the best way.
Looks nice, I like that cute little bird too. You can draw/paint 100 times better than I can! I envy artists, it's such an awesome talent.
You can use them in a variety of ways. If you want a wash effect, make the water wet first, and then add the color. Good for backgrounds. If you want a watercolor effect, color first and then blend with a very, very slightly damp brush (the more water, the lighter the color will end up being...or the more it will run). If you want a bold, detailing effect, let everything dry and add more pencil color when it's dried. You can also dip the pencil right into the water, but I haven't done that. A final way to use them is to scribble hard on a piece of paper and use that as a painter's palette. This facilitates mixing colors. Kim
My brother was like, why is there a big puddle of water on the hammock? Sigh.... Thanks Kim for the advice. I will play around with the colored water pencils.
I think your pictures are beautiful! I can sketch things okay, if I have a picture to draw from, but I have never tried to paint. I like to watch and admire the PBS channel art shows where the artists show you how they are painting a picture. If I ever get some money to spare, I will be taking painting lessons (or else violin lessons- I have always wanted to do that too)!
