    Ok who is home today?
I went to the bank on Friday and my favorite teller was there, she is very personable I show her pictures of my granddaughter and she shows me her kids pictures. AND she knows I am retired

I told you that so I could tell you this
she said "We are closed Monday," and then to be nice she asked "what are you doing on the 3 day weekend?"
I must have gave my smart arse face because before I could finish saying "I'm retired, all my weekends are 3 days and some are 4 day" she started to laugh, I am laughing, the next teller heard and started laughing too. she says "oops a blonde moment" (what is really funny is she is African American) then she rolls her eyes up and says "darn I can't use that excuse"

    I just had to share

I'm home, but not because of Columbus Day. I was sick all weekend, and this morning was feeling pretty rotten. So I stayed home. I slept most of the morning, and am feeling a little better, but not much. We'll see about tomorrow!

    Dave, that's too funny!

We're home today for Columbus Day. I spent most of the last 2 days getting the fall clothes out. I brought a total of 5 big bags of clothes to the clothing bin; I have 3 more to give a friend (whose daughter is one size smaller than my youngest.)

Yes, Hartlepool, but don't you lot still get spring and summer bank holidays?

Cute story, Dave. I particularly liked the blonde moment. But, darn! I'd forgotten the banks are closed today.

As far as I know, many of the school districts here are open. I know that they tend to clump holidays together so that you have the whole week off (Thanksgiving break, president's week in February). I only have to work 3.5 hours today! :D

It's a long laugh if so, Hartlepool: those bank holidays were well established a quarter of a century ago.

It's gotten chilly here-- the other night was in the low 30's. Most defnitely time to put the shorts and T shirts away.

I do it every Columbus Day weekend-- with 3 kids, it takes pretty much a whole weekend.

The good news is that my neighbor is getting an entire fall wardrobe for her 5 year old daughter, complete with a red velvet and tafeta Christmas dress.

We had school here today. I drove into work this morning in the snow, so Alice we don't need fall clothes, we need winter ones. This is the earliest I can remember this amount (3-4 inches) of snow in a long time. We didn't go outside, but I bet the kids would have loved it!

No day off for us, but we had our homecoming rally today so the periods were a little bit shorter, which was nice because I came down with a cold over the weekend. I skipped the rally and had a little quiet time in my room instead.

I am off today! We didn't get Columbus day off last year and it was a long stretch from Labor Day til Thanksgiving break! I didn't leave the house today...went shopping Saturday and Sunday both. So today, I did some cleaning and work on some stuff for school.

School was in session for my district. The next day off is 10/30 due to staff development, but that doesn't affect me since I'm a sub. The kids are probably thinking they get that day off because of Halloween.

    Here is the recipe!

    Apple Grunt Ingredients:

    4 tb Butter
1/3 c Tightly packed brown sugar
2 c Pared, cored, and sliced
    fresh apples
    3/4 c Chopped walnuts (optional)
    1 Egg
    1/2 c Granulated sugar
    1/3 c Milk
    1/8 tsp Salt
    1 tsp Baking powder
    1 c All-purpose flour
Whipped cream or ice cream (optional)

    Apple Grunt Instructions:

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
Melt 2 tablespoons of butter in an 8-inch baking pan.
Melt 2 tablespoons of the butter and place in a mixing bowl.
Add the brown sugar to the baking pan and stir until disolved.
Arrange apples over the brown sugar.
    Sprinkle with walnuts if desired.
Add eggs, granulated sugar, and milk to the mixing bowl with the 2 tablespoons butter.
Mix in the salt and baking powder, then add the flour, mixing until smooth.
    Pour batter over the apples.
    Bake for 35 minutes.
Loosen cake from sides of pan with spatula and invert if you wish on serving platter
Serve with whipped cream or ice cream if you wish

My grammy used to make this for my dad and uncles. My dad likes it piping hot and then adds some milk to his serving. I also toss the apples in granulated sugar, nutmeg, and cinnamon before putting in with brown sugar. I used McIntosh's today and it wasn't overly sweet...just right!

Although I am not retired, I am not working. I have never been busier. I see what people say about retirment. Maybe it is that I move much slower, but I always seem to have a list of things to do.

    No day off today.
Our next day off is for Thanksgiving.
We school a tight Labor Day to Memorial Day.

Today: 1/2 day with students, 12:40 dismissal. Professional development workshop from 1:45-3:30.

We have off 2 days first week in November for NJ Teachers' Convention. Plus one day that week with no kids- just all day parent teacher conferences. So it ends up being a two-day 'teaching' week with kids. November gets so crunched with that week and our Thanksgiving days off...

We were supposed to be off today and tomorrow, but we have to make two of the five days off we had off due to the flood.

The administration told us we could wear jeans to make us feel better. I was comfortable, but I didn't feel better. :)
