It has been a scary morning in the Columbus area today.

    http://radio.wosu.org/post/breaking-suspect-killed-least-8-hospitalized-attack-ohio-state

One of my friends was in Watts Hall, and it was his colleague who was stabbed in the leg (my friend locked down his classroom with his students inside). Everyone else I know has checked in as safe.

I've asked my principal to review our lockdown procedures since we haven't in the time I've been at my new school.

    Insanity.

I'll admit to a few minutes of panic, and then a sigh of relief (not discounting, at all, the tragedy) when the news headline to my phone read, "Several injured, suspect killed in attack at university in Ohio." For those who don't know, my daughter attends school in Ohio, but not at Ohio State.

My thoughts and prayers go out to all affected; such a scary situation.

My daughter, who is an OSU alum, was there visiting. Scary times until I heard from her!

I had a similar problem when I was subbing in a school on active shooter lockdown (long story involving a love triangle in the bus garage). All I could do was plunge the classroom into total darkness and remind students that the light from their cell phones not only betrayed there were people in the room, but they were excellent targets.
