I learned today that one of the finalist for the 1st grade position at my school is male. This got me to thinking. I wonder what % of elementary teachers are male? We only have one other male teacher at our school. I am looking forward to working with the newcomer- male or female.

Out of our entire (albeit small) staff, we have one male classroom teacher and the AP is male.

I think we have about 40 staff members, and about 10% is male. For sure the PE teacher, and ESE teacher, and a fellow 4th grade teacher. I haven't met everyone yet, so time will tell.

In my building, I am one of the two males out of about 25 or so elementary classroom teachers.

I'm not teaching yet, but my credential program cohort has 26 people - 2 are males. The other cohort has 26 or 27 total, and 1 is male.

Zero out of 30. We had a male teacher last year but he was filling in for a teacher who was on maternity leave. The only males in our building are our engineer and custodians.

Our percentage of male teachers is ZERO. We had a guy a couple years ago. I LOVED hearing his voice. It was just a change to my ears. I wish there were more males at my school.

    We have
    1 male 1st grade teacher
    1 male 3rd grade teacher
    2 male 4th grade teachers
    2 male 5th grade teachers
    1 male special ed. teacher
    1 male P.E. teacher

I believe we have 40 classroom/special teachers. Last year, we also had a male 2nd grade teacher, but he took a new job for the coming up school year.

Out of 40 teachers, we have one male and he was hired this year. He was the only male sub that ever worked at our school (we are Pre-K - 1st only) as well.

Last year we had 2 male teachers (the computer and PE teacher) out of a total of 12 elementary teachers. I know we have some new teachers this coming year, but I haven't heard who they are. I'll find out Monday though.

I think male teachers are so great in elementary classrooms. It also gives those kids who don't have fathers in their lives a male figure to look up to. I wish there were more male teachers in elementary.

At my last school we had about 50 staff members, and two were male (principal and PE teacher).

I'm not sure about my new school. It's a larger school, and I think there are only 3 (PE, 4th grade, Title 1).

I find it really interesting that often it is the PE teacher who is male. We have 3 teachers who share the PE role in our school--only one is male and he has the least amount of PE.

At the school I observed at, the only male teacher was the PE teacher

Growing up, the only male teacher at my elementary school was a third grade teacher (who got arrested for downloading and possession of child pornography a few years ago). At the intermediate school (4th and 5th grade) the only male I remember was the principal.

In my Education program, I have encountered.... maybe 15 guys including myself. (Like 35% of the students at my college are in the education program, 15,000 students, 38% of the students at the school are male, 62% are female.

I am the only male teacher at my elementary school. I have taught sixth for three years, and am transitioning to 3/4 this year. When that was announced I was met with a little trepidation, not by the upcoming parents, but by my coworkers. Elementary education is an odd beast.

I know that I've told this story before, but...

When my son was in kindergarten, the students had a male sub one day and he was in the yard to great the students when they arrived. To my utter humiliation, a few of the mothers took their children home because they were not going to let them stay at school in the care of a "strange man". Our students need more of a male presence in elementary schools.

32 faculty at my school. Three are male: 1 PE teacher, 1 Social Studies/Asst. Principal (he's new), and 1 Math teacher. Seems to be a trend though.

Wow-- that really is surprising. Kids usually love to have a male teacher-- I remember I always adored my male teachers in school (they were GOOD teachers regardless of their sex though).

Starting 5th grade, I started having male teachers. I have at least one or two male teachers a year through high school. A lot of the were great teachers and had a lot of patience.

One of my favorite male teachers that I had was in the 7th grade. He was my mathematics teacher. He really influenced my to do well and was always there to support and help me through school. I even went to him when I struggled in 8th grade.

A few years ago, we had no male staff members in the building.

Currently we have 3 (out of 10 teachers and 6 support staff): our P, the 4th grade teacher, and the middle school LA teacher.
