I have a formal observation the week after next and I was wondering if anyone had some ideas for me. I will be doing a writing lesson, and write now we are doing personal narratives. I was thinking about doing something about "show, don't tell", but I wanted something cute (and simple) for the observation. Any thoughts? Thank you!

Or we have been working on adding dialogue to our writing. Any thoughts on doing something with that maybe?

Have you taught them how to write a lead sentence yet? If you haven't...i have good resources on how to teach that.

No I haven't done that yet. Would you be able to send some to me? Thanks!

I recently attended the 6 traits writing conference and picked up some great ideas that can be found in the book Marveleous Minilessons for Teaching Beginning Writing K-3. You may not be able to get it in time for your observation, but I highly recommend it in general. Good luck.

To teach dialoque and quotation marks, I have them write in speech bubbles and then add the quotes. They love it! Maybe you can have them illustrate themselves and then make themselves talk through a speech bubble? Maybe they can make themselves say something about the upcoming Christmas holidays and how they feel about this time of year. This would make a cute bulletin board as well!
