NYC DOE hiring freeze

    I have a question on behalf of a friend. does anyone have an idea as to when the nyc doe hiring freeze will be lifted for general elementary ed teachers?

    Im wondering that too. With the budget cuts its not looking like it will be lifted any time soon..

    Its been lifted for sped, science, and gifted. But so far it has not been lifted for elem ed. Meanwhile so many schools have vacancies.

    Probably not until they find some money.

    With the games they're playing with the budget in Albany, I wouldn't look for much help from there anytime soon.

    What I don't understand is if they see teachers from the excess pool are NOT applying for their vacancies then how can they justify putting a mediocre teacher (from the excess pool) in the classroom over a skilled teacher not in the pool. I also don't understand why teachers who are excessed in nyc still get paid. I work on the island and if you are excessed- you are excessed. No more pay.
