Does anybody have a good strategy for helping students remember that the numerator is the top part of the fraction and the denominator is the bottom part? Thanks.

I learned that the Denominator is Down when I was in primary school - it's one of the few things I consciously remember! So that's what I teach. :)

To be silly, you could go with, "No, duh".

Thank you so much! I have never heard of numerator--north, denominator--down south before. I will definitely use it.

We also say, DENOMINATOR, 'Da whooooooooooooole thing (to help them remember to count the number of parts in the whole).

They love saying it in deep voices!
