I know this has been addressed before, but I don't remember where...anyhoo...Do you number your students? If you do, what do you do when you have a student move away or have one move in?
Do you give a new student an old number?

I don't want to switch numbers around since that would be too confusing.

Also, when a new student moves in, do you put them at the end of your class list or do you put them into the abc order???

I've never used numbers and never will. I have no reason to, seems really impersonal. If a new student comes in I just put them in place alphabetically since I have everything on my computer.

I will number my students this year for two reasons: My textbooks are already numbered AND it will make it much easier when entering grades in my grade book. I'll have students write their numbers on every assignment so that I can quickly put them in order before entering grades...

If a student moves away, then that number is just not used the rest of the year. If a new student comes, I will just add them in at the bottom of the list. ;)
