Out of curiosity, how many teaching days do you all have? My board has 195 school days, out of which we 185 teaching days. I'm wondering how that compares across the country!

Here we have lost a whole bunch of days due to storms too. I don't think they will tack these missed days into June, but do any of you work for boards that will??

I believe the minimum according to law is 180 teaching days in public school. We have that, plus 7 inservice days. We don't plan "snow days," per se, but every year it floods a little so we loose a day or two and then make it up on MLK day.

I think in our district we work 184 days, of which 180 are teaching days and 4 are staff development days.

We have a 180 day calendar; the state will grant up to 5 snow days that do not have to be made up, over 5 and school goes later in June.

A large district near me used up their 5 snow days in August and September due to heat!

In Missouri, it's 174 student days unless they changed it in the past few years. As far as contract days, it varied from district to district... usually 180.

ETA: One year we missed so many days due to ice and snow that the state voted to 'forgive' districts and let us finish with 170!!

In New York it varies from year to year. We must have at least 180 teaching days a year This year we are scheduled for 185 teaching days with 4 staff development days.It requires a blizzard for us to get a snow day, which is usually not made up.

No it is not usual, my school is a charter school that requires the kids to be in school 200 days of the year. Teacher contract begins August 1 and the last day of school is around June 20th....... we report back for the new school year about 3 weeks before the kids start, we get the 2 weeks of winter break, a week of spring break and major holidays off. The amount of time that we have off for the summer is about six weeks.

Our state changed to hours. As long as you get the required hours. Sorry can't remember what it is. Our district goes from the day after Labor Day and ends before Memorial Day, but does go longer if snow days.

Sorry, but do you mean 220 contract days? Because if you worked 320 contract days a year you would be working weekends, too.:confused:

It depends on the district, but:
    Student days - 175
    Contract days - 184

And a question for those of you with only 1, 2, or 3 extra contract days. Do you have any staff development or teacher work days? How does that work? What about parent conferences? I'm really just curious. Thanks!

Where I live in Florida, the kids go 180 and we go 194. Lots of training days. We come in one whole week before the children and stay 2 days after they leave. The rest are scattered during the year. But we now have what we call 'trade' days. If you take any training during the summer or during the year on your own time(that is approved) you can trade that day for one of the training days during the year, up to 5. At least now we are getting SOMETHING for all those trainings we have done on our own time.

Yes your number would be more accurate I just subtracted the six weeks that are the summer and put the rest into the year (minus the breaks listed) and didn't think to subtract weekends.

Teachers work 186 and students are in school 175. It depends on the district in our state and how many snow days we have for total days actually worked in a year!! One year my district had 13 snow days and none of those had to be made up!! :)

We have 180 student days and we make-up snow days. This year we have had 7 so we have used up all the days that were built in including Good Friday!) and we are now adding on to the end of the year. We have 185 teacher days and we release students at 12:30 several times a year for in-service.

Private schools in my state can go by hours instead of days. We have 1000 hours, but 170 student days. I don't know about how many teacher days we have.

    180 instructional days
    184 teacher days
We do have a half day about once a month for professional development. In my state if you serve the kids lunch it counts as a full day, so on PD days they must eat lunch. We also always announce a 2 hour delay before announcing no school for snow days. If we have a delay we don't have to make up a day at the end of the year.
