Oh, the past 11 days have been magnificent. This is the one true break that I get each year, and I love it! I am very sad that it's my last day of break, but, on the upside, I've gotten everything done to get ready to go back, so I have today just to relax around the house.

MsWK, I feel the exact same. I'm glad that I've gotten everything done (except a little laundry), but I'm not ready yet!

I need to do a little lesson planning today. Maybe that will get me in the mood.

I think I want to cry. 11 days just doesn't seem long enough. Maybe I should get married have my triplets and be a stay at home mom.

I agree. MOst of my break was wonderful - and it was all recreational, not a bit of schoolwork at all. But now that I got sick this past weekend, I still have so much to do around the house before I go back!

At least it's only a 3-day week for me. And Friday is a 1/2 day. I guess I can handle it... it's the thought of going to my classes on Friday and Saturday that is adding to my pain.

    Back to the grind.

I have enjoyed my time off too....haven't even taken the "teacher bag" out of my car since my break started. I need to finish packing away the Christmas decorations today. I also will go through my closet and get rid of at least 7 shirts since I have 7 new ones. (There are tons I don't wear, I just hang onto them). But, I don't go back to work until Monday, so I have a few more days. Lesson plans are ready for the first week back, and I plan to get at least the next week's plans done before I go back.

We were supposed to go back next Monday but we are not going back until Tuesday since LSU is in the National Championship. Most of our students have season tickets and no one planned on coming to school that day so they decided to give us an extra day on our holiday. GO TIGERS!!!!

We have to go back on Friday, Sigh :( I can't wish for snow. Maybe I'll wish for several days worth of rain. :p With the lack of rain, it'll flood. :p Nah, I do need to start working on some lesson plans tomorrow. Sigh.

I cried this AM about returning! :( After our Miami trip didn't happen over break, I switched gears and hooped up the traditional chaotic X-mas. Then Dec 26 until now, we have done nothing but play, sled, read, sleep, watch movies, eat out, etc. It has been mindless and welcoming.

I'm having a fabulous school year yet enjoying this life much more.

Our next break is summer. Done Friday before Memorial Day...bring it on I guess!

Go back tomorrow :( DON'T want to even though we have been out since the 15th (had to do a 1/2 day planning that day since they took our workday that we normally have after Christmas). I agree with the post above. I haven't taken the "teacher bag" out of the car the entire 17 1/2 days that I have been home. I got a few things taken care of during the break however I still have TONS that I need to get finished (finish painting a bathroom and bedroom, finish cleaning out some closets and boxes from when I first moved in last year). We get out again the 3rd week of February and the 1st week of April. Hopefully I can get all of this done so that when we finish up the end of May I won't have any "chores" left so that I can have the new tile put down in my kitchen and bath and hardwood floors in the rest of the downstairs (really dislike the carpet the builder picked out). I have come to the conclusion that breaks are never long enough. I can imagine next year when our break @ Christmas is cut by a week.

I'm not ready either! I'm very proud to say I haven't done anything school related during the break. Usually I start in with school work right after Christmas, but not this year. I can't even seem to drag myself out of bed before 8:00! Getting up at 5:30 is going to be soooo difficult on Thursday morning!

No snow, no rain, just wind. That's what I get for being in California ...no excuses valid enough for canceling school. I am happy I have until Monday, but like a lot of you I have not given even a first glace at the TE's, let alone my planner. I have 5 days left until we start up again, but my school is an hour away so when I go to set up again it is going to be ALL DAY. When is the next break again? ;)

No snow, no ice, just cold wind. And it's supposed to get warmer as the week progresses, maybe even into the upper 40's/low 50's. So unless the boiler dies or sometime we have no reason to get more days off. I'll be spending at least some time tomorrow in my room trying to get things ready for Thursday and Friday when the kids come back.

You are so right, wldywall! But, I still am enjoying cuddling up here on the couch with my dog! I won't be so happy on President's Day when and if we have to make up a snow day. This is our 2nd of our 2 built in days.

We have 13 built in days. We use a couple for staff developement and the rest can be used for weather emergencies. I usually give up on snow days by the end of March
but one year we finished using them up in May due to flooding.

I don't want to go back tomorrow! How will I ever get up. I have been staying up really late, about 1 or 2 and really sleeping in. I'll never do it tomorrow. And to top it if off I have a meeting after school tomorrow for 3 hours.

WOOHOO! First day back and a snow day! I live in Ohio, but work in Kentucky. Some schools don't go back until Thursday or Monday, those that went today are closed, in the area of both states that I'm in.
Our third full snow day for the year so far, we had 2 hour delay as well. I have been at the school two days during the break, we moved into brand new rooms and had to get the set up once the custodians moved our materials from downstairs to upstairs. I've still enjoyed a nice break 19th-2nd..er, now 3rd. Gotta love living in a "hilly" area with backwoods and "hollers"!

Oh how I love those days!
But we need to have below zero high temps with wind to close.
If there's wind, we might close with 6 inches of snow!

Now, I'm not afraid of snow in the least. I'm afraid of those steep, curvy roads with nothing between me in my car and falling into the river or over a rocky cliff!

Several times last year there was no school for snow and it was DRY at my house. I live right outside the city--if you can even call it a city--and all the snow was in the mountains & "hollers".

I remember the storm of the century back in 1992-3? We were living in Alabama at the time and got 26 inches of snow in a day and a half. Well we were prepared we are from MI, no one else was. The military went into full crisis mode, closed based, demanded everyone check in....we ended up with another family at our house (we lived off base) becuse they lost heat and power and we only lost cable. Hubbie went to walk to the only open store miles away for more food and when the military showed up to bring him to the base to use the moblie kitchen trailers to cook for the recruits, they sent a search and rescue team out for them. They made it a half a block before hubbie came walking in with a big smile. :D

The funniest thing I saw was the road commission people on the news as the storm started to hit and they were panicking wanting people off the roads. They had a pile of sand to the right and salt to the left and it mixed in between. The road guy said we can't salt down when it is so cold, it will only make more ice. We cannot use sand as it isn't effective in this kind of weather. So there is no way to make the roads safe. Well hubbie and I were SCREAMING at the TV that he was standing in the solution! You mix the two!!!!!

The next bright idea of the mlitary? Use road grading equiptment to plow the snow......they destroyed 1 million dollers worth of equiptment!

So Ima Teacher, please know being afraid of snow was only in jest, I know it is a lack of equiptment and experience, but this northerner will always think it is funny......sorry

I'm really, really jealous of those of you who had snow days! Last year, we "lucked out" because the 2nd was a federal "holiday" for Gerald Ford's funeral.

Today was our first day back. I really didn't want to get up this morning, but knowing I only had two days until the weekend really helped. Maybe easing back into things isn't such a bad idea.

I'm ready to go back... I have a ton of stuff to take to my room... I found out my VP will be going in tomorrow afternoon, so I'll get her to let me in, since I don't have keys.
