I found out today that I was non renewed. Basically the P said a fresh start would be best for me because he thinks I would do better starting over with new kids. He said he's not going to tell anyone that calls but just talk about the strengths I do have and just give general first year teacher weaknesses if they ask about weaknesses. I'm just not sure what to do. I'd been looking anyways because of the school's location and pay. I just don't want this to really hurt me. I can give more details via PM. More just need support right now to get through the rest of the year.
How many days do you have left? It's nice that it is near the end of the year and that you were already looking for a new job. Keep focused on your students and providing the best education that you can provide for them. It's hard knowing that you won't be back, but it will help the principal to give you a good recommendation for another school...it might even lead to another job within the same district.
Focus these last weeks on giving your principal something really positive to tell potential employers who call.
Thanks, all. Mopar, it's just a small school so no other jobs in the district. Our last day is May 26 so one month left. I teach seniors and they're done on the 14th so then I'll only be teaching 4/8 classes.
Ugh, I'm sorry you're dealing with this. If it helps, I have seen a bunch of English teaching openings in central Ohio on the ODE site. If you aren't in the middle of the state, I'm sure the job waves will ripple through the state.
I'm sorry this happened to you. I don't have much advice, but just try to hang in there and do the best you can for your students. And make sure to take care of yourself as well. I hope you'll be able to find a good position for next year.
I just got non-renewed due to budget reasons, but honestly, I feel like the school wasn't a good fit for me anyway. I fluctuate between freaking out and being somewhat relieved (I knew the District had major budget problems, so I'd been having nightmares about layoffs for weeks).
