I am so frustrated! I accepted a job on Monday (the only interview I've had...for that matter, the only CALL I've had) and I just got a call informing me that the school's enrollment is down and the position is no longer available! To add insult to injury, most of the positions that were available last week have now been filled and there are only 4 I can apply for now. I'm starting to think this is hopeless.
it's not... plenty of schools are going to find that their enrollment is up and they will need teachers. Besides, the kids that were going to that school had to go somewhere, don't think the Bermuda triangle moved to OK!
I'm so sorry that happened to you! It unfortunately does happen. I have had it happen to me. Did you ask the P to put in a good word for you at any other positions they may know about?
Wait, were we going to teach at the same school? This happened to me Monday. I was hired but they were not sure what grade I was going to be teaching. Instead the school CLOSED! Enrollment was so low that it closed. It was a private school. They had been lying to me for the past 3 weeks.
Edelweiss and SashaBear I am so sorry this happened to you both. Do either of you have leads on any other positions?
I am sorry to hear this. I wouldn't lose hope yet. The closer to school starting, they might find that their enrollment is up and they may call you in again.
That's awful; I'm sorry that this happened to both of you. Hopefully enrollment goes up or goes up at another school where you can get a job.
I am sorry that this happened to you. Don't lose hope yet. Most schools aren't going to hire until they know their enrollment for sure!! We are holding off hiring for a K teacher until we know the bodies are going to show up! That means a K teacher won't be hired until around Labor day and school starts the Tuesday after Labor day!
I too, am sorry that this happened to both of you. I wish you the best of luck in your continued search. Hugs to both of you!
Stay positive and don't give up. I got hired last year as a 1st year teacher 2 weeks before school started...there were positons opening up and hiring up until Dec. So, stay optimistic Good Luck Sasha!
I'm so sorry to hear about this! Keep your heads up, something will work out...I'm a firm believer that everything happens for a reason. I've heard of people getting hired well into the school year after other teachers ended up leaving! There's still hope for all of us for this school year!!! :2up:
I got hired in November-wish I had known it was an interim position-I would have taken it anyway but I wouldn't have been so shocked when I wasn't re-appointed
I'm so sorry that happened. I had a job in a private school once... I got hired there in November. The following school year in the beginning of Nov. I was told the school was going to close because of low enrollment. I thought it would be impossible to find a job mid year and I'd probably have to sub the rest of the school year... but ya know what? I got a job THREE WEEKS LATER... a teacher retired mid year. This will be my 10th year there now. there's hope, don't give up, even after the year starts. There are also often maternity leave possitions.
I love working in a private school but low enrollment can also affect our teaching jobs. Because of the increase of tuition each year, many parents find it difficult to afford it. Our school will probably not make it after this year. When I first graduated about 8 years ago there were so many jobs that most teachers were hired on emergency credentials. Now that I am looking, I notice there are a few jobs but many experienced and credentialed applicants who are all hoping to get the job. Good luck to everyone looking for a job.
I feel like crying for you! But hold on please. They may turn out that they can ideed hire you--this happens. Draft off a quick thank you note expressing your profound desire to teach at their school if things should change.
Unfortunately I feel the school operated very unprofessionally. They were lying and deceiving. They mentioned they will try again next year. I think I will pass. Anyway my interview with my dream job went well!
Well, I've found another position! Thank goodness - school starts next Thursday, and pre-planning starts Monday! Thanks for your support, everyone...I was really starting to think it wasn't going to happen. ETA: This wasn't a private school, for the record. It was a public magnet school.
