I have a 3rd grader with no confidence in her abilities. Academically, she does well, but is sometimes held back by her low self esteem. She gets some test taking anxiety as well so her assessments are no always reflective of what she knows. I was thinking of having her keep a journal so that she can reflect on one thing she did well that day so she becomes more aware of her successes. Any other tips would be appreciated!

I have a girl like that this year. I found that chunking assignments and assessments helped, so that she has moments of success. Finding out that she was successful on the first chunk made her more confident for other chunks after that.

Definitely focusing on her academic successes would be great. I would also help her to set goals and track her progress towards her goals.

If her academics are effected by this issue, she might be able to get psychological counseling. I would started documenting the ways in which her work is negatively impacted.
