Today was our last day and most of my classes graduated friday. One graduate stopped by my room today to say goodbye and said I was a great teacher - one of her best. I know it's not a competition, but as a teacher who was laid off and might not be able to stay in this profession, and has NO clue what's next, this teenager made my year. (I'm getting overly emotional as I write this!) I had no clue I had reached her at all - she was bright before my class, and did great work, but I had no clue that she enjoyed my class. I hope I learn from this to always tell people when they rock my world, because this little comment was the best gift to leave on. And here's hoping they find the money to hire back all of us who have been pink slipped. Teenagers are intense and interesting and I hope I still get to work with them and learn from them. sad about job ending.
Glad you had such a nice moment in the middle of what I am sure are a lot of yucky ones. We have many pink slipped teachers at my school, as well, that I'm hoping hard for- I will hope hard for you too!
Thanks. I'm hoping next year I'll be able to sub in my district. With so many of us in this position I'm unsure but hopeful.
I was in this position last year, boy do I feel for you. Keep your chin up, jobs always open up during the summer. Just keep checking those job boards. With your experience and the confirmation that you did a job well done you'll find something. Good luck
Thanks! I feel oddly unshaken. ....perhaps it's just denial! but I remain optimistic. Thank you all for your support, kind words, and place for me to vent!
