We bought a new pickup last night! Kind of exciting. My BF had a VW that he has been trying to get rid of for a long time so we traded it in on a truck. Next I am going to get rid of my Jeep and get a smaller, more fuel efficient car (probably a Mazda3 hatchback or Matrix/Vibe). So the truck will be a secondary car when we need to haul/get bigger things in place of my jeep and for BF to pull his racecar. I have had my Jeep Grand Cher for almost 10 years now and it is the only car I have owned. It will be weird to get rid of it. BF, on the other hand, I think has had like 15 cars in his lifetime. So BF is big on naming his cars, probably to keep them all straight. I sometimes call my grand Cher JeepJeep, if that counts as a name. His racecar is Steve and his daily driver is Marvin. So we named the truck Cletus. Our friend's car is Tim. My mom names hers too - it's Louise. Anyone else name their vehicles?
I never have. I have a friend that does though. Since I've known her, she's had Cash (truck), Penny (SUV), Monroe (car), and Mini Pearl (her new car). I had a Jeep Grand Cher before my Tahoe. I loved it until it started messing up on me all the time! The final straw was when the A/C went out. What kind of truck did yall end up getting?
We typically create a name that goes with the letters on the license plate. So my mom's car is Ugly Yellow Lemur since the letters are UYL. Otherwise we just call it something based on the color, so my dad's truck is Big Red since it is big and red, my brother's truck is Big Blue (same reason), my car is Little Blue.
My car is Zoe because my husband would never let me name my children that, my daughter drives Baby and my son drives Whodat
My first car was a nissan that I named Mario; I ended up dating a Mario so it was confusing! Right now I have a camry and I named her Emilia
Dodge Ram 1500 with a quad cab. It's nice. BF wants to start racing a little further away, so it will make for some nice road trips. We got a great deal on it because no one wants gas guzzling trucks right now, but we won't be driving it every day.
I have never named a car...though my cousin and aunt and one girl I used to work with have...they are the only people that I have heard that from though....that and what was that show is Hoff...he named his car!
Congrats on the new truck! No, I don't name my cars & I probably never will. It's just not something I do.
I'm in a similar position. I drive a 98 Mustang and her name is Tang Baby. It's the only car I've ever owned (I've had here for 9 years now) and it's about time for a new one (I actually applied for an auto loan today! Looking at a new Ford Escape.) I'm sure I'll cry when I sell her. She's become a part of me and always been a GREAT car. Maybe I'm deranged, but I even talk to her, like when she evasively maneuvers us out of a potential accident or makes her way up a snowy hill (no easy feat in a rear-wheel drive Mustang), I rub the Mustang on the steering wheel and say something like, "Good job, Tang! Good work girl." I hope I can pass her off to a family member-- I've got a lot of younger cousins about to hit driving age rather than sell her off to a total stranger-- I feel like I'm betraying her! Is anyone questioning my mental health yet? Haha, I sound like a crazy person.
Nope. If I did that, I'd have to question my own. Eddie and I are good friends. He's never let me down. He's gotten me through tropical storms and blizzards. He's started in the middle of a flood and at 30 below. He's never failed to get me around town, or across the country. If he needs a dashboard rub from time to time, then so be it .
I have never named any of mine, but one of my best friends in high school parents had a truck that we rode in all the time and we named him George.
Hahah. I love it. Interesting how we can form bonds with inanimate objects. I hope I can do so with my next vehicle... wonder what kind of personality it'll have....:haha:
I always name my cars...I bought a new car in 2005 and didn't name her right away. I got up one morning and she was gone! Someone took her right out of the driveway. Later she was found (with the stuff inside like my dvd player and all my CD's gone) I joke that because she was nameless I couldn't find her..the police had to....her name is Bridgett and she belongs to a family member and my new cars name is Mollylou all my cars are girls!!!
No, besides the name and type of car, I could have written this post. I got my JeepJeep 9 years ago and it is also a 98. I also talk to it and it is also about on it's last leg. I drove my parent's Cougar when I was in college and it didn't have a name but it started to run so poorly that I would actually promise it premium gas. Like it was a treat for the car or something. But then I would always feel obligated to do it, like karma would get me for not keeping my promise to my car. So ridiculous. lol
Teachings4Me~my friend who has names for her cars does the same thing! I don't think it's crazy at all. Even though I haven't named any of mine, I have told them good job before.
We kinda do the same thing with the color names. My first car, in the late 60's was a Lancer and it was a horrid shade of blue and I called her the Blue Goose. Then we had a white, high-top conversion van and called it-the great white whale or Moby Dick. Our green high-top van is the mean green machine. I have a brand new Hyundai Tucson and it is a beautiful car, but no personality to get a name.
I'm glad I'm not alone! I've also named some of my friends car. My friend had an Escort when she first started driving and I told her it needed a name, so I called it Melvin. It stuck. When I get my new vehicle (2011 Escape, just got approved on my auto loan, woo hoo!) I'll have to name it and share with y'all.
I named my Saturn Vue GiGi. It's short for Gas Guzzler, but she's really not bad on gas. My old car was HOJ or POJ, depending on what I felt like calling it. HOJ/POJ was short for Hunk O' Junk/Piece O' Junk. Silverspoon and Teachings, congrats on your new cars.
I talked to my little blue Focus, especially when my little car would need to accelerate up a hill or something. Eventually I started calling it 'Cochita'--not quite sure why it became semi-Spanish though! When my father sold that one (long story), the new one became 'Cochita Dos.'
bandnerdtx that is clever....my gps is Luke (as in Luke Spencer from General Hospital) I should have named my car Laura...do you think it's to late?
My Honda Accord is named Tojo. Our Volvo is named Sven. My bikes are named Ritiln, Adderall, Prozac, and Guinness.
I drive "bluebird" to work. She is fast and pretty. She may be a station wagon, but that's just a cover.
So this is it. I am taking my JeepJeep to the dealership soon and picking up my new Subaru Forester. It is bittersweet - it is time for a new car, but I have been through a lot with my Jeep. I just think of all the tough drives I have made in that car - to my hometown after my Pop died, home after my 1st BF dumped me, to my first real job, to the hospital when my mom had her heart attack, and it moved it to a new state and in with my BF. It still has pine needles in it from my first Christmas tree on my own. I found all kinds of crazy stuff cleaning it out this afternoon. It's definitely sad. But I am really excited about the new car. I test drove a Mazda 3 and realized I will not be happy with a car after 9 years in an SUV, but then we found a Forester in a great price range and with great mileage, and the MPG ended up being the same as the Mazda. So I am excited that I am getting what I really wanted. And I have a name in mind for him but I am going to drive him home first.
