He is a russian tortoise. After 2 days he has started to come out to visit a lot more! The kids love him already!

We actually decided on Owen. I ended up giving them 5 choices that I liked: Oscar, Iggy, Ollie,Dexter, and Owen.

It was so close...they all had about the same votes.

Anyone ever have a pet tortoise (don't call him a turtle or my students will correct you in a heartbeat!)? Any fun things you did during the year with them?

Did you say that your tortoise was $500.00?

The tortoise was $120 and then the rest of the materials were $260. Donorschoose.org adds some fees to pay their people and fees for the postage of thank you letters. The tortoise and habitat were about $380.

Owen is adorable, and that's a great name. Good luck with him.

Does your class have a favorite book character that they would want to name it after? Or maybe a favorite food? I have four anoles in my room that I am going to let each table name one. I am kind of nervous about the names they will choose.

A few years ago a friend of my mothers found three newborn kittens in the parking lot of a McDonalds. So my mom took them and bottle fed them. In the end we decided to keep them and named them Big Mac (the only boy out of the three), Muffin (for Egg McMuffin), and Nugget (she was the runt of the three). Maybe think about where the Tortoise came from and that will help.

Could you have them give you a top-3 list if you're unsure? You can say that it's too make sure they all get different names, but that would give you a chance to screen them.
