I am a first year teacher and I have been nominated for an award for new teachers. I have to write an essay answering this question:
How have you shown effective leadership in your school?
I am struggling with writing this essay because as a first year teacher I feel as if I haven't been a leader in the school except towards my students. Any advice on what to focus on in my essay. I am struggling!:(

What an odd question for a first year teacher. At this point you are honing your skills as a teacher.

Are you on any instructional councils at your school?

Have you joined any committees or collaborated on any events?

Are there units you've designed or engaging , creative lessons you've shared with your team? Any innovative parent communication/home to school connection things you've initiated? Volunteer? Committee work? Don't rule out the ways you've modeled leadership to your students...

Acting like a professional every day (dressing the part, projecting a positive attitude, not gossiping, not whining, etc) are all parts of demonstrating leadership to your students and to other adults.

LOL...That sounds like a terrible award, having to write an essay...I hope there is a cash prize or something. Otherwise, all that energy spent on writing could be used for some planning haha
