I just got my first teaching job, and start in two weeks. I'm teaching 3 separate classes, and one class is something I have no experience with. My certification is General Sci, and the 3rd class is Jr/Sr science elective. This is a new course of this year, so all I have to go on is the paperwork the previous teacher did to get this class approved.

Right now my anxiety is through the roof. I could use any advice.

Any advice on getting through this. For at least the other two classes, I student taught those grades, so I have some resources.

Now is the time you may want to make google your friend. Since you have the basic idea of what should be taught in the class, the wheel has probably already been invented somewhere on the internet. You could look up the syllabus, teaching ideas and units, activities, etc for the topic you will be teaching. Alternatively, are there any other schools in your district already teaching that topic?
Good luck, congratulations, and most of all...have fun and try not to stress too much!

What does the paperwork say you will be teaching? That is the question I would have before giving guidance, the same info you will need to search for a syllabus or guidance online.

I was wondering the same. "Jr/Sr science elective" is a very broad description which could be anything from astronomy to microbiology chemistry to mechanical engineering.

Thank you, but never mind. I just found out due to some last minute restructuring of the district, they no longer have a position for me.

I just wish they said something earlier, before I said no to another offer.

Could you call the other district, explain the situation, and see if they still would have you?

It was a long term sub position with a temp agency, and it has been filled.
