1st I want to say thanks to all of you who sent me PMs asking about my situation. Your concern was appreciated! :D

We're a month later & when I left off, I had my SLPA interview on 8/22 & had a good feeling about it. The director asked on the interview if I'd want an SLP job, which I said sure! I met w/ her on 8/24 about it. She couldn't say enough good things about me: How I'm truly respected by the SLPs & her, etc., etc. I was so filled w/ emotion that my hard work throughout the yrs had been recognized that I literally CRIED in front of the director! I told her that after some thought since Monday, I should maybe take the SLPA job for now since I don't want to be overwhelmed & want to do a good job. She told me to reconsider & offered me anything I wanted:

    - SLPA job (full time)
    - SLP job (part time)
    - SLP (full time)
    - SLP 75% position where I'd get EVERY Friday off. (She knows I'm in grad school.)

I said I'd reconsider & told her the next day I'll take the 75% position. I'm waiting & waiting. Then, TODAY, 9/22, I was called by HR that I got the job as a contracted SLP & sign the contract tomorrow! I give all thanks to God & I'm so glad all my yrs of hard work has paid off! :D:D:D

A couple wks ago, I had very graciously declined the offer the other district made to me (about the substitute SLP), which was temporary anyway. I said that if the situation comes up, I'd love to be considered again. The HR secretary was very sweet & said if that happens, she'd love to put me to work!

    Thanks again guys!

So which school are you at? The one that you had been waiting on for so long or the other school?

    When do you start?

And, please forgive my ignorance, but does this mean you're the "pull out speech teacher"? Or is the job description totally different?

I start on Monday...yes, the day after tomorrow. Yes, the format that my district uses (as most do) is a pull-out method, which I like. I already know the RSP teacher, her aide & kind of remember the office staff at the school I'm assigned to, so that's good.

I've technically been working w/ speech kids since the year 2000, but now I have to learn the whole IEP meetings, assessments, & other paperwork side to the job, which is a WHOLE other thing.

Stands for Resource Specialist Program. It's a type of mild/moderate disabilities (special ed) teacher. I was one for just a yr back in 2006-07. :)

Congratulations, Mrs. I!!! I am so super excited for you, been following your story for a while now. I always feel like things are in God's timing and not our own, and your time is now!!! Everything probably has been working up to this. Plus, it's the district you wanted. And I am so jealous of your Fridays off too!!

That's very nice of you Alice & TamiJ to be thoughtful of my 1st day! :)

Actually, it just felt like I was going on another assignment at another school. I won't meet the students until Thursday & I haven't met the principal yet. She was in meetings all day. I just started reading through the students' IEPs & taking notes, sent a few emails, wiped everything down w/ Clorox wipes, etc.

    TamiJ, in response to you...

Thanks again TamiJ! Oh no, I'm nowhere near done w/ my grad school prgram. I'm 5 months into my 3-year program, so I don't graduate until 2014, so I still have a lot to learn.

I was never trying to get an SLP job, except applying 1x about a year ago because I know they can hire people even BEFORE they begin grad school.

When I said how I'm in my last week of my tough class, this coming week is the last week of one of the classes I'm taking NOW.
