What read aloud books are you planning on using this upcoming school year? I'm looking for some new ones to use with my fifth graders. :thanks:

I teach 5th grade and these are the read alouds I use. I am happy that this list really worked. They liked all of them. It took me years to find enough really good books that they all enjoyed and had some good messages as well.

    1. Wonder by R. J. Palacio
    2. There's a Boy in the Girl's Bathroom by Louis Sachar
    3. The Wednesday Wars by Gary Schmidt
*4 A Shining Season by James Buchanon
    5. Shoeless Joe and Me by Dan Gutman
    6. Martin Luther King Jr.: I Have a Dream by Margaret Davidson
*7. Small Steps by Louis Sachar
*8. Drums, Girls, And Dangerous Pie by Jordan Sonnenblick
    9. No Talking by Andrew Clements

*=some questionable language that you might want to leave out are in these 3 books. Like any read aloud, I would suggest to read aloud these first.

    Enjoy!

There aren't by any means "new" books- but ones you might be interested in adding to your list:

    1. Bud, Not Buddy
    2. Out of My Mind
    3. Tuck Everlasting
    4. Al Capone Does My Shirts
    5. When Zachary Beaver Came to Town
    6. The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe
    7. Hatchet
    8. The Witches
    9. Wonder
    10. Holes

Wonder...I know it's already on a list above but it has been the most sought after read aloud I have done in 8 years. I loved the book, but never could have imagined the impact it would have in my classroom.
