We are going to the Sugar Bowl and are looking for a hotel. I need some guidance as to what areas of town to avoid and any other advice you may have. We will have young children with us so safety is a concern. Street names to avoid or that are ok, hotel names, anything would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Lucky you!!!! Some friends of mine recently stayed in the French Quarter at the Royal Sonesta Hotel and said they felt perfectly safe. Be sure to stop in and eat at Broussards.

I have stayed at the Embassy Suites on Julia Street and I felt safe. Granted, I was working so did not leave my hotel to explore, so I might not be the best recommendation. They do serve a great free, hot breakfast.

One of my favorite places to stay is The Ambassador it is in the warehouse district which tends to be a quieter part of town. I go to New Orleans at least one a month so if you have an specific questions about a hotel feel free to PM me.

The French Quarter is safe, but not quiet for families, really. Look in some of the areas around NOLA: Metairie, Harahan, etc. I can definitely give you a run down of what to do, where to eat, where to park for the game, etc. if you are interested.

Thanks everyone! Most of the hotels were booked, but we found one in the garden district. Everyone we talked to said it was a good location and the trolley runs right in front so we can use it to travel in the city.

Any other suggestions you may have about New Orleans would be appreciated. We will be there for 2 days.
