Alright so I really want to change around my management system because it isn't working that well. What I need in the past is the clip chart system- Outstanding, Great Day, Good Day, Ready to Learn, Think About It, Teacher's Choice, Parent Contact. If the students got on Good Day or above they got a sticker at the end of the day to put on their sticker chart. 20 stickers= pick out of prize box. During the morning for Daily 5- I do two warnings= recess or on teacher's choice= recess, which works well. Then in afternoon just moving clip down doesn't bother them as well because they know they don't have recess to get taken away. So my new plan for morning and afternoon. 1- move clip down 2- move clip down take sticker off of sticker chart 3- recess Then this starts over in the afternoon. If they get a 3 in the afternoon the recess gets carried over to the next day. However, if they have a good morning the next day they can earn some of it back. What is everyone's thoughts on this?? I could really use some feedback to make sure I am going to implement this new plan after the break. I teach at a rough school so that is why I need a stricter management plan.
What grade(s) do you teach? Also, my first thought was this scenario. Jimmy has a rough afternoon on Monday. So he loses Tuesday morning recess. What happens if Tuesday morning is also rough? He can't lose recess twice.
i dont know if i like the idea of letting them "make up their behavior". to me, that sends, you can be bad in the pm and just have to make sure youre good in the am. is there anything else beside recess?
No there isn't! I do a short game at the end of the day and the students don't care if they miss out on that. How would you suggest using the clip chart but making it more strict?
I think if they lose recess in the afternoon they shouldn't be able to earn it back in the am. However, for young students its a little harder to hold them accountable on Tuesday for something they did on Monday. I wouldn't have a problem doing this with my 3rd graders, but I don't think I'd do it to a first grader. I would really think hard about another consequence.
I agree. The consequence should be more immediate. I like the removal of the sticker, though. What about a call or note home if they move down a certain number of times?
