Well, co-department chair, because there are so many ELA teachers at my school. WOOHOO! Now what do I do? I need advice from teacher leaders and administrators!
When I was grade level chair, there were only three teachers in my grade level. Including myself. So I'm not really qualified for advice, but I can celebrate!
Thank you, everyone! One of the things I'll have to do is oversee two groups of specifically formatted teacher-based-team meetings. They follow these steps: Step 1: Collect Evidence of Student Learning Step 2: Analyze Assessment Results Step 3: Plan for Instruction Step 4: Implement with Fidelity Step 5: Re-assess and Evaluate Effectiveness I'm not specifically running the meetings, but I'm making sure they follow the correct format. I was just wrapping my head around this process last year as a participant, and now I'll oversee them.
:2up: What did the DC do last year? What sorts of things are generally done by the DC at your school?
This has changed several times over the past three years. DCs originally oversaw two grade levels at a time. There are too many of us for even that, so there are four DCs, one for each grade. My main jobs are to facilitate teacher meetings (especially the ones involving data analysis), act as the curriculum expert (I redesigned much of our curriculum so that isn't too bad), and work with the school's leadership team.
