Totally helpful! I just wish that they told me more about the position. All they really said in the interview is that it's co teaching and self contained which sounds like it's both teaching core subjects as well as supplementing instruction which is what is throwing me off.

By any chance do you know what I would need to have in order to just get my contract? That's my main concern right now just having the credentials to get my contract so I can actually start!! With PD for teachers starting next week I feel like I should know all of the details by now right? I haven't even discussed my salary yet so I can't even have that confirmation to show apartments.

This is why I'm so hesitant to come down so willingly. No one has told me anything but school starts SOON

You may not get your contract until after board approval (which may be after you already start), but may be able to have HR send you a letter of intent to hire with your salary on it.

I'm surprised with the offer no mention of salary was discussed. You will definitely need that in order to secure your apartment and the landlord will need to be able to contact HR to verify employment.

You have your license with an endorsement in SPED which is fine.

I am sure you will be given time to complete the RVE and VCLA if needed and the CPR can be taken online print off your certificate and viola....you only need to take it once.

At my school division our licensure specialist assisted with our out of staters getting what they needed for VA.

Our sped licenses are mainly SPED General Curriculum k-12 some also have ED or other specified disability listed endorsements but most now are just saying GC k-12.

Is this Elem, Middle or High?

Well the offer came from the principal but I was told HR makes the final decision. So far I have been badgering them all day trying to get the details but it's frustrating because I guess I won't anything for sure until my paperwork gets processed right?

You should be good...most sped teachers I know in elem are "resource" unless self contained....the sped student is in the general ed class with the gen ed teacher providing instruction and the sped teacher may come in and assist, provide accommodations etc and/or the students may be pulled out to her/his room for a short time for supplemental work.

Well in my interview they told me it was part self contained but I'm not really sure what that means to be honest.

They may be with you for homeroom and resource/skill type instruction and go out to gen ed teacher for core subject instruction.

Vateacher - do you know where I would need to go to get fingerprinted?? When I did it for my state I was still in college so we did it on campus.

Some schools do it at the school, HR others will send you to the police dept. Depending on what division in Northern VA I bet they may have a process to have it done there.

A side note for anyone still looking there is a school division holding a teacher fair tomorrow still looking for teachers for THIS school year!

I don't think you HAVE to have your fingerprints/TB test done before school starts. I had 30 days after employment started to get it done. HR will let you know where you need to go for all that. They usually give you a huge packet with all this information.

Unfortunately according to HR I need my fingerprints, recent letters of recommendation, TB test AND My official transcripts sent to their office asap otherwise they can't process my info and can't give me a contract

Good thing I got my TB done the other day because I anticipated I'd need it.... But the transcript thing takes days so now that's opening a whole new can of worms

You may have to get the fingerprinting done within the state you will be working and you will probably have to make an appointment. If you verify your appointment OR verify that you have completed it (they will give you verification at the finger printing place) because it will take WEEKS for the finger prints to process. They HAVE to be understanding about this and can't expect it to be all done and processed before school starts I hope...Again keep open communication about your situation and progress so there are no surprises.

You may be able to get official transcripts sent via email within hours. Check with your university.

Have ever considered teaching English to foreigners for a couple of months?

If so, you can take a look at Cactus Language website. They offer TEFL preparation courses all over the world. It's a good opportunity because it allows you to make money while being immersed into a foreign culture.
