Please, not all in caps. My eyes hurt now....

First thing I would do is look up the state standards for the grades you will be teaching and go from there.

Please stop using FULL CAPS. On the screen, it comes across like yelling.

I see that you give your location as WA. Will you be teaching in a public school in the state of Washington, or what?

I'm sorry I can't be of any help. I teach high school math.

But you did receive on piece of advice: to take a look at the state standards. When you did that, did it help?

What's the curriculum in the school? If you're starting this far into the school year, there's most likely a syllabus in place. What did they say at the interview?

    MrMister,

Hello and welcome. I teach 1-8th so I have a huge range I deal with and it's my first time teaching art in a few years. However, with drawing and the fact that it's middle school, I would start with the basics. I did a drawing techniques lesson with my middle school kids, (Hatch, Cross Hatch, contour, Stippling) as well as a 1-point perspective where they could write their name or a word they are fond of (keeping it clean of course) using a vanishing point, etc. You can also do positive/negative space, grey scale, blind contour drawings, etc. The list goes on. Sorry, I kind of just threw a bunch of stuff out there. I also agree with the others that checking the Art Standards for the state of WA is a great place to start. You may also want to check out the National Art Education Association. Not sure if you are a member already? I am and they also have great lesson suggestions. Best of luck to you!

Doin great katrinkakat. :thumb: yes, finally teaching art! Moving to AZ was the best thing I ever did. I'm considering going back to get my M.A. in Art Ed. Not sure just yet, but most likely within the year. How are you? How is good ol SoCal? (feel free to PM me instead) ;)
