I just wanted to know if I can apply for jobs yet, even if I haven't gotten my statement of eligibility?

Because I am a recent graduate - it will take some time before my degree shows as conferred on my diploma (and they said I can't send my transcripts without it showing - even if all my classes are there). So my statement of eligibility is delayed because of this.

However - I know right now it is just a matter of paperwork shuffling since I have a degree and passed a SAE - so I know for certain what I am qualified to teach under a temp certificate.

I am watching the better jobs on line start to dwindle and I was hoping I could start calling around for positions today - but I don't know if that is a no-no without my letter of eligibility. I don't want to seem like an idiot. :)

Did anyone else have this problem?

I don't have a clue. But why not put "certification pending" and apply away??

What do you have to lose?

Hi, if I were you I would send in my resume and a cover letter stating your situation, if possible you can mail your transcripts and a copy of your scores......when do you think your degree will get conferred? Also, when do you think you will get your eligibility letter?

I do hope that all goes well...........

Many many students are in your position. GO out and apply. If you are a college of education graduate (or almost grad atm) you have everything you need for a professional certificate. Many counties will give you a job offer and ask your college to give you a letter showing confirming your completion of coursework. I know where I use to work any COE student who was hired pending degree conferred we would gladly do this for. If you aren't a coe grad there is a certification specialist in every county who can look at the transcripts you do turn in to see that you are eligible.
    Good Luck.

I would apply for the jobs and go to the interview. If the principal really likes you he/she could contact certification/personel about your rushing to get your paperwork completed.

    Conspiracy,
When we old teachers started applying for eligibility and certification in Florida, we had to wait a long time for one tiny finite number of certification experts in one centralized location to get around to our applications. I know one person (me!) who struggled with the state for two years before they finally straightened out their mistakes and issued a retroactive license. Now many districts handle their own certification paperwork, meaning if they say you're in, you're in, and it is much speedier to let the hiring district handle it. So by all means, apply now and apply everywhere. This is the best time to land a job for the 2006-2007 school year, because many positions are being vacated by teachers moving into new positions or into the new schools being built to meet the 1:25 ratio law that was passed. If you wait on the state, you may end up waiting an extra year because of missed opportunities!

    Old English-

Now that I have begun applying - I am seeing that I should have started earlier! :)

Thank goodness the application process has streamlined...lol....it is enough of a quagmire as is! (someone should introduce the left hand to the right hand)

This is government we're talking about, Conspiracy: there's no particular reason to assume that the left and right hands in question even necessarily belong to the same nervous system...

I'm finishing up my stuff tonight for a job fair on Tuesday (tomorrow will be used for printing and taking down the hem on my suit) and I stumbled across this (it is 4:47 am here) and I laughed so hard at what you said Teacher Groupie that I spit diet pepsi on my monitor.

    I think I needed that!

Diet Pepsi out the tear ducts? That's gotta tickle. Or something.

You're going to do fine, kiddo.
