I am working on a paper for my Classroom Management class. I need to discuss what appropriate social skills are needed in 2nd grade classrooms to ensure effective learning. The paper specifically asks for 10 skills. Here's the ones I have so far..maybe someone can add to this list or give me ideas. I would really appreciate it!

    1. Asking permission before leaving the room or getting supplies (unless directed otherwise)
    2. Using self-control by keeping hands and feet to yourself
    3. Complement others/no negative criticism
    4. Sharing materials
    5. Honesty
    6. Respect ourselves and others
    7. Practice empathy-consider other people's feelings

Thanks again for all your help!
    Teri

How about confrontation skills, meaning how to deal with confrontation and solve problems with peers without teacher help?

How about no tattling? At my school the kids are required to use their I sentences before taking problems to a teacher. They have to say "I feel ___ when you ____. I want ___." An example would be "I feel sad when you stick out your tongue at me. I want you to stop doing that."

    Listening to teacher and others
No getting up (to get a tissue, get a pencil, whatever) while teacher is talking
And I'd second wholeheartedly the part about no tattling!
We have a rule that kids can't interrupt the teacher while she's leading small groups unless one of the 4B's has happened - bleeding, barfing, broken bones, or someone is seriously Bothering you and you can't handle it yourself.
