I currently teach 5th grade science but I am required to complete a county-wide literacy task with my students. I am having trouble finding a graphic organizer to fit the assignment. They have to read three different articles on eclipses then write an essay explaining the similarities and differences in how each article proves that eclipses help us understand our relationship to the sun. Any help is much appreciated!
Can you make your own? I'd have a space for the article title, the main points from the article and then a space to summarize the points for comparison. Maybe a simple table in Microsoft Word?
Find some sample essays that could be models for what you want your students to write, then have your students decide what they all have in common and what parts make the essay stronger or weaker. Then have your students make up their own class organizer. Doing it this way, you can include the critical elements that your students are mature enough to notice and apply to their own writing.
