I thought I had it all decided, but the ideas keep piling on! Here are the themes I am considering:

    1. Crayola crayon- This means lots of color in the classroom, which is exciting. It also means that I can draw crayons on posters and cut them out since crayons are easy (in other words, I'm not an artist). The crayola crayon theme also screams first grade to me (technically I will be teaching pre-first, but pre-first is the same age as first grade in the states). Oh, I can also easily reproduce this theme on our class blog.

    2. Detective theme- I was definitely doing this about a month ago. Some of you even helped me with ideas for this theme. I initially liked it because I am always referring to my students as reading detectives, so it seemed like it would also make a nice theme.

    3. Wild west theme- A friend of mine is actually bringing a pack of classroom decor with this theme from the states. I think I will use it, but maybe not this year (deciding on what theme I go with). The only draw back is when I look for images online, I get a lot of cowboys with guns, so I have to avoid those images).

    Please tell me your thoughts.

I voted for the detective theme. I like the crayon idea but I think you could do a lot more with the detective theme as far as decorating goes.

I vote detective! Crayon sounds cute but has the potential to get over the top and distractingly colorful.

Thanks! I actually was hoping the Crayola Crayon theme would win, but so far the Detective Theme is winning by a landslide. But, I am really loving the simple, colorful Crayola Crayon theme.

Crayola... your excitement was shining through! Also, it is an uber-easy theme for your kiddos to understand and relate to. Good luck deciding and then decorating...

It seems like you really want to do a crayon theme. I say go for that one. I've put together themes for detective/mystery as well a Western Theme. I actually did the western theme in my own room. It was fun, but 1st grade screams out "COLOR!!" Now you have my gears turning. I think I'll need to add a crayon theme to my theme collection of ideas and pictures. I'm doing an "art theme" birthday party for my son in a few weeks so I have some fun ideas in mind.

I like detective too. Couldn't you do a colorful detective thing? Or maybe narrow it down to mad scientist? Lab coats, beekers, microscopes, atoms, bugs, rocks etc?

Crayola since that's what you have our heart set on now. :)
Just make sure to not use to much color either..
It might get hard to focus on a white piece of paper if the rest of the room is filled with all different colors
    ;)

There's your answer then!!! It's your classroom, and that's the theme you're most excited about, so do it. What other teachers in other classrooms prefer doesn't matter.

    Have fun!

I think you can do a lot with the Wild West theme. Welcome your Buckaroos! with a Howdy! and a Happy Trails! to a wild west ranch with Bison, Longhorn Steers, Horses, Dogs, Praire Dogs and Eagles.
