I have a student who is reading at a 1st/2nd grade level. Her parents would like for some kind of work for her to do at home that is extra. I was thinking of getting chapter books and writing down questions for her to answer. Any other ideas?

If this student is reading as this level, is s/he doing other things as well? I would suggest some games that all can do together. Checkers, word games, etc.

Do you have access to reading a to z? That is a great website to find books on many different levels! I had a student who was reading at DRA level 22, and I used those books to supplement her weak areas. I ended up talking to her mom and dad, and we, along with my principal decided that she would be better off in 1st grade. She is now thriving, and doing a great job!!

Would that be an option for your student??

maybe talk to the 1st/2nd grade teachers to see if you can use some of the things they prepare for their classes

What about a journal? You can give her a list of topics to write about. Or maybe it can be in a letter format where she write Dear Mrs. AMK, blah blah blah.... Then you can write back to her and do this on a daily basis?????
