I have a complete set 1988 Topps baseball cards - 792 in total. I would love to use these in an art project with the kids in my class. I currently have 32 students, so I could give each kid at least 24 cards.

Should I have them make a collage with all left-fielders? Cut out the guys with mustaches? 3-D sculpture with nothing but Mets?

As you can see, I got nothing. Thanks for any ideas.

It sounds like you're just using them to say you used them. Start with your goal first, and worry about the supplies second. If there's ever a good reason to use the cards, then pull them out and use them.

Put them out with a variety of other pictures, magazines to cut up, mixed media art supplies and let the students decide how to use them in a collage.

I use baseball cards in the class, and I must admit that I cringe at the thought of cutting them up. I reuse them year after year for different activities in math and reading. The statistics on the back lend themselves to all sorts of math activities. I have used the same cards for about 20 years straight (I have a few 1000 that a parent gave me) and I would suggest finding a way to not cut them up, but to let them be reused each year in various art activities. In time, you will find that you will find they are helpful with many standards.

Also, I usually let students keep 1 or 2 of the cards after we are done using them and they love that.

Truthfully, I'd be tempted to see how much the entire set might be worth to collectors...:p

It is worth about $25--although prices will vary.

You could have them place each player in a scene which they draw themselves.
