I have just received an offer for a position that I love! A dream job. But just about the same time my hubby and I found out we are pregnant with our first child. I am not due until March (right before spring break), but need advice. I need to accept the job today. Do I tell the prinicpal on the phone today before I sign the contract? Or do I wait and tell her? HELP! :help:
Although I've never been in the position, I think you should wait to tell her. BUT if it will make you feel better and more comfortable, then you should go ahead and tell her. Sorry, don't know if that really helps at all! Oh and CONGRATS!!
You are still very early along in your pregnancy (about 2 months?). I would wait until you are in your second trimester before making any "official" announcements about your pregnancy. Congratulations and here's hoping for a healthy and easy pregnancy!
I agree with Mrs. R. There is a teacher in the our elementary school who had this happen about 20 years ago. She accepted the same day she found out she was pregnant. She has been in the same school system 20 years!! If I were you, I would hold off telling until the second trimester, but only you know what is best for you. Congratulations!! This certainly is a special time and exciting time for you and your husband.
CONGRATS!!! I can honestly say been there. I found out I was pg the day after signing contract. Like the others I'd probably hold off telling people. It wasn't a big deal for me. I know the principal was on vacation & actually heard from someone else before me. But I did make the call to let the principal know.
I'd wait too....principals are used to teachers having babies (one school in our district is loaded with pg's all the time!) and finding leave replacements .....he/she probably won't think too much about it! You got the job!.....enjoy it!!!
Congratulations!! I too would wait to announce but you do what feels right for you. Don't worry too much about it. Enjoy this special time in your life!!
Do not say a word until you've had your first review. You can't claim discrimination if you start the job with your supervisor knowing your pregnant. I had a horrible experience when I was pregnant and it's because I was stupid and told my principals that I was pregnant.
welcome to my position!! only i found out i was pregnant right after i was hired! just go ahead and take the job, then AFTER you have signed the contract, tell the principal. I know that at my school the only two people that you absolutely have to tell are the book keeper and the principal.. I've gotten as far as to tell the book keeper but taht's it.
My teaching partner had something similiar happen to her. We were a 1st year school & she kept missing work in Sept. After about the 3rd time, I approached her & asked if she was pg. She was. She hadn't told the principal yet. Later that day she told the principal that she needed to talk to him. He looked at her, and then told her that she was pg. He said that as a grandpa he could tell. Last summer he & the VP were making guesses as to who would be pr last school year. They were pretty close. Guess what I'm saying is if you have a good principal, it won't matter.
