Any tips for a dual language program? I am still a new teacher and was told I would be teaching the English portion of a dual language program in first grade. (If you are not familiar with a dual language program, it is where there are 2 classes that switch everyday between learning the curriculum in English and then in Spanish). The Spanish teacher and I need to be on the same page, as the instruction should be seamless- she leaves off where I teach in English with my class, and vice versa. Can anyone give advice or what I should expect? I feel so nervous and overwhelmed, even though I have the whole summer to prepare. Thank you!
What a cool opportunity! I student taught in a dual language program and have observed many others and I totally wish we had more in my area of the US. I agree with what others have said so far. There are also many great resources out there with information on successful dual language programs, your school probably connected you with these already but: http://www.carla.umn.edu/immersion/resources.html Best of luck!
Thank you for all the advice so far! It is such an awesome opportunity to be given, but I am SO nervous! Next year will only be my second year teaching (I was the general ed teacher in a 1st grade ICT class this year) and I am afraid I will screw this up! At least I have 2 months to prepare. I really hope they hire the other teacher soon so we can start planning!
