Does anyone know of any job openings in Chicago or Cook County for 2011?
I don't, but I live on Long Island NY.
What is your area of certification?
Have you checked the regional office yet to see if there are any postings? Have you checked the individual school websites to see if there are any openings posted?
Oh, and I most certainly wouldn't care about openings-- My cover letter and resume would be on the desk of every principal in Cook County by Tuesday morning, opening or not.
I've been searching, filling out applications, sending out resumes, and going on interviews now for 6 months. Nothing has worked out yet. Its very competitive and most Chicago, Cook County, and Lake County districts are getting at least 500+ applicants per position. Its VERY competitive.
Here's CPS bulletin where you can find listings
As far as suburbs, you can find job openings at each individual's district website.
Are you willing to look outside of Cook County?
Many of the districts in the far north suburbs (Waukegan, Zion, North Chicago) are often looking. If you're willing to expand further west, then Will County is a growing area.

I am in the area and have a cover letter and resume and if possible application at every school I am qualified to teach in, in Will, Cook, Kane, Dupage, and Lake counties. As well as CPS. It is rough. I started looking outside of the state because this area is ridiculous. I have gone on 6 interviews and some second ones but it was very hard to get them. I made an online portfolio and a brochure to send.
I agree with the making sure everyone has your info with or without openings and consider looking outside of the area.
It just takes persistence, patience, and a lot of time! I graduated about a year ago and after looking, looking, looking finally landed a full time position for this coming fall. This area is competitive thats for sure, but once something does work it out makes you feel that much better to know that YOU were the one chosen out of those 500 applicants.
...Forgot to add, keep your head up and stay positive that YOU are the one for the interviews that you do land!
