Hi all! Our last week of summer school is next week and we were given the "ok" to do some fun activities. (Not so focused on standards). I thought it would be fun to do a 3-day theme (we only go to school Tues-Thurs). Does anyone have a theme that would work? Looking for a theme that might have some book tie-ins as well as art activities and maybe even math. Maybe someone knows of a website with mini-themes? Thanks!
Since you live in Texas, and my friend from Garland says it's hotter than h-e-double hockey sticks down there, what about some kind of water theme? I've done bubbles activities with my kids towards the end of the year. I have used the book "Never Snap at a Bubble", put bubble solution in a cup (only fill about 1/3 of the way up) and give them a straw. They blow in the bubble solution until they have a mound of bubbles that spill over onto their desks. Then just let them explore. Good clean fun!
To go along with divey's suggestion... If you put food coloring (or tempera paint works, too) in the bubbles you can "paint" paper. For my summer school science class we did this. We made our own bubbles using dish soap and added food coloring. Then we put it into pie tins and blue bubbles with it. Then we used pieces of white construction paper and dipped it into the bubbles that you have blown. It actually works pretty well.
