I'm really confused and angry right now.

Today it was announced we're getting a (laughable) 1.2% raise. I decided to do some research and this is what I ran into:

In 2008, I began at step 0 at 30,430. Step 5 (where I am now) was 35,380. With the new schedule, step 5 will be 31,380, a difference of -4160. :dizzy:

Am I a total moron? I can't figure out why my step 5 in 2008 was higher than my step 5 in 2013. Can anyone tell me what I'm missing?!?

    For reference...http://www.ncpublicschools.org/fbs/finance/salary/

Were you actually receiving the $35K salary for Step 5?

My understanding is that teacher salaries have been frozen in NC for the last 3-4 years, so the 1.2% would apply to the salary you are actually receiving rather than which Step Level you are on.

Basically, I'm afraid the 2008 pay schedule simply no longer applies.

Each year that our salaries were frozen they increased the step number but we kept the same salary.

I can't help you except to say I am stunned anyone is getting a raise in this economy. We haven't had a cola in 6 years and steps were frozen 3 years ago. With the furlough days, we are all making less than we were a few years ago.

They froze our steps, which is why step 5 used to pay more than it does now. Those people that were at step 5 are still making that pay (they will get the 1.2% raise next year).

It sucks, but at least they are giving us SOMETHING.

I am thankful that they're trying. When the House vetoed the governor's bill two weeks ago I actually thought that was it for us. I was surprised to hear it passed.

The 2008 schedule means nothing now (as the people that are on step 10 currently are making the same salary they made at step 5).
