I bet a similar thread has been started before, but I couldn't find it

I'd love to get a list going of national chains that offer teachers discounts or reward programs. Some that come to mind:

    Staples
    OfficeMax
Office Depot? I'm actually not sure, maybe someone knows
    Apple

    Others?

Books stores - Books A Million and Waldenbooks offer an educator's card for 20/25 % (I can't remember the amount off the top of my head) and you don't have to pay for the card. Books A Million is the most liberal with their policy and it takes the discount off almost everything you purchase. I can't thing of a time when I didn't recieve the discount on my entire purchase even magazines, novels and clearance books. Waldenbooks is very strict with it's policy - the books have to be educational in purpose.

Barnes and Nobel also have a 25% discount and are fairly liberal.

    hijacking my own thread...
My area has ZERO used bookstores :( I've also visited all the Salvation Armies in my 30-mile radius. I've only gotten 16 books for my classroom library this way. I don't know how I'm going to stock my library. I'll hit up all the yard sales I can over the summer of course, but I wish it was easier :(

    Back to teacher discounts :)

Call the local libraries and see if they have used book sales.

Also ask on freecycle. If you don't know what it is, Google it.

I know Border's has one (20% but it has to be for the classroom) and I believe Half Price books has one.

I know it is not a discount, but my local library did not charge late fees for over due children's books. I had to get a speical card and could only take out chidlren's books....and only from that library (our county usually has inter-loaning, but not for that card).

I know if you go onto the web site for your union (here in NJ it is NJEA or NEA), certain stores run special discount times, even the rent-a-car companies, just for showing your card.

Verizon does some. I don't know what the requirements are. I know my bf's mom gets a pretty good discount (public school teacher). I just got a job in the lab preschool at the university, and I will be able to get a discount with that. I don't know how much yet; I need to go in this week.

AT&T/Cingular does. I think it was around 10%. We didn't get it because you can only get one and we have the military discount which is higher.

My insurance company, Horace Mann, offers great teacher discounts on auto and home insurance.

I also ask at any store I am at if they give a teacher discount. You's be surprised how many do give one out.
