I wanted to let everyone know that my Walmart had signs posted that all back to school items are now limited to 15 of each item per person. Obviously this is not a big deal because you don't need a card so you can go in and out or have someone else get the stuff for you etc.

Any signs at any other Walmart stores? Mine is in NJ, and the signs were not up a week ago.

Also, double-check with the store's manager if that limit includes teachers. I've checked with Office Depot and they've said that they exclude teachers because they want to be teacher-friendly.

Can't hurt to check with the manager. Of course, some will be more likely to bend the rules than others.

That stinks:( I guess it would be easy enough to go through the checkout a few times at Walmart. At least there's different cashiers.

Yeah, if you want more, be sure to check with a manager first....Last year, I was at Office Depot and they had folders for a penny. The worker there said "oh you're a teacher. you can get as many as you want! Please get a lot because otherwise I have to inventory them all!".

I was like, "are you sure???".

He said for sure that I could get as many as I wanted. So I was like, I'll get 300 and spend $3.00. He said yeah that's good. So I counted out 300. I get up to the checkout and they wanted to charge me 25 cents after the first 10. They thought I was CRAZY for thinking I could get them for a penny. They were so mean then to me and acted like I was really dumb for bringing up 300. I really thought it was crazy too, but the worker said to buy as many as I wanted, I told them. Well, apparently the worker already got off work so they couldn't ask him. They really thought I made up the story and then I only ended up with 10 and spent a whole 10 cents. So next time I go to OD, I need to ask a manager first:) I'm still not happy that they were so mean to me.

With 3 kid and 2 teachers in the house, I frequently buy more than 15 of a lot of items: loose leaf, pens, pencils, folders...

I can understand their need to impose limits. It just means more than one trip to Walmart, probably the store I hate most in the universe.( Well, on the Island, if not the whole universe.)

I haven't seen any signs in our WalMart having a limit. I haven't even looked at school supplies yet though!

Sounds like the worker wasn't aware of the policy...enforcing policy ensures there are enough of the featured sales items for others to purchase, not just teachers. Stores actually lose money on these specials (they're called 'loss leaders') and are meant to entice shoppers into the store and hopefully spend money on other items.

I was there on Wednesday and bought 27-30 of everything with no questions asked. Guess it hasn't happened here yet. :)

It definitely varies from store to store. I walked into the nearest Office Depot and asked the cashier where the 10 cent folders were. She told me and then added that I could get as many as I wanted. She didn't know I was a teacher. When I was checking out with 15 folders, she said, "That's all?" She and the other cashier were talking about how to override the system so they don't have to enter 10 at a time. She mentioned that someone bought 200 folders the other day and it would have been a hassle to put in 10 at a time. This was the third Office Depot I've been to for the folders so I didn't need many, but I thought, man, I should have come to this Office Depot first! When there are more deals, I'll be going back there. Hopefully the same cashiers will be there!

I decided that I am not buying any supplies for my classroom this year. I've done it enough in the past to try and help keep them organized with what they need and somehow plenty of them still end up unorganized. So, we will just make due with whatever we got.

The teacher in line behind me yesterday bought 50 spirals, duo-tang folders and a lot of other stuff! Hopefully there won't be any limits here!

So far no limits at mine. I purchased 30 folders in 3 different colors today and had no problem. (Also purchased 30 pink erasers and 5 packs of highlighters. ) I'm hoping the limits don't become an issue.

Just so you all know---You can get 10 pks of papermate pens at Target for free right now. If you print the $1.00 off any one papermate stationary item Target coupon (from Target.com). The pens are on sale for $1.00 right now. You can print to prints per computer. They will take up to 4 like coupons at Target, so I printed 4 total from the two computers we have in the household, and got 4 packs of red pens for my class for free!
