My new classroom is 99% ready for kids. I've moved rooms for the first time in 17 years, and it's only my third room ever. I'm also moving up a grade. There are a few things still in order, like my calendar and my turn in boxes, but most everything is ready.

Now I can work on curriculum stuff . . . and enjoy my remaining two weeks of summer. :thumb:

This is proof positive that a middle school classroom can still be cute! :hugs:

P.S. Did you make the curtains yourself?

Yes. I made them. It was one large valance from Goodwill, two yards of fabric from Hobby Lobby, and two black sheers from the dollar store clearance bin.

Your room looks great! I've been working on mine. I'm about 90% through. I"m waiting for the laminating film to be loaded again and I need to do the baskets at the end of their tables. Then it's just curriculum. I've been able to do it by going in an hour or two here and there. It's nice to not be sitting here at the end of summer and nothing done. I've still got almost a month. (Closer to 3 weeks, but I'm sticking to almost a month. lol)
I love your bathroom passes, by the way. Too funny! I can see Jr. High kids loving them.

Grah. That reminds me that I have to move rooms, but I can't until about 2-3 weeks before school starts. I'm doing an internship until then... >_<

And LOL. I LOVE your bathroom pass and homework inbox.

Looks great! I love your use of memes (can you tell I'm a middle school teacher as well?)...

Side note, where in the USA are you? I always get the heebie-jeebies seeing these pics of classrooms made of brick with no windows! I'm in southern CA where we have outdoor campuses and most rooms have floor to ceiling windows on at least one wall. Just curious!

ETA: Just saw that you are in Kentucky...interesting!

Are you sure you want the pictures of your door with your name on it to be on such a public forum?

I have been on a major ladybug quest since I found out I was moving rooms. I had already decided on red & black. Ladybugs seemed perfect! Most of it is from Hobby Lobby, but I also found some things at Dollar General, thrift stores, Oriental Trading, party supply stores, and Amazon.

I love the memes also! I'm not a big decorator myself. I did a theme for the first time this past year, but won't be able to use it in the coming year. Your room looks great!

This will be my first theme in 23 years! I've always just used coordinating colors, but never a theme like the ladybugs. I'm almost already tired of them. LOL

I've used ladybugs for years. I try to add something new each year. I don't tire of it, but I'll admit I'm sometimes tempted by the newest trends. Then I remember how much I've invested in my ladybug room. My favorite color is red and the ladybugs make me happy.

I love it! If I liked the color red I'd so steal the ladybug theme look!

Where did you find the stick on letters? I swear, I'm search teacher supply stores and all I see are the punch out letters. I like adhesive best and I have a whole wall of painted brick in my room.

What's the I'm Done part on the board for? Do they have their own sticks to put in their pockets?

The blue ones are the only stick on letters, and they came from the tech class at school. The others are regular letters I put up with hot glue.

It has activities for early finishers. My go-to activity has always been reading a library book, but I have more and more each year who flat out refuse to read, so I'm going to have reading, writing, and grammar activities.

There are library cards in each pocket. Kids sign the card when they complete the activity.

Great job as always! I too love your late work and bathroom pass designs. They would work great in my room. I've just started on my room. Got my library in order - have to box all 300+ books every year because everything is removed from the room so they can wax the floors. My two main boards are set up and my desk is filled and set up. still messing around with seating ideas. Don't know how many kids I'll have per class yet. Hear it is going to be about 6-7 kids less per class. We have to work in the building doing plans, copies, setting up class, etc. before pre-school week, and I have half of that requirement left. I'll get it done. . . I hope!

    Your room looks awesome! :)

I'm wondering if you'd explain the "Missing/Late Work" log (I think it's called?) A black binder near the bathroom pass meme photo?

Also, I see a pocket chart that also deals with missing work?

Each student has a page in the binder. If an assignment is not completed, the student must write down the date, assignment, and why he/she didn't do it, and then check it off when/if it is completed late. It's just a way to track work issues.

When I grade papers, I write the names of all students with missing work on an index card with the assignment on the top, and I put it in the pocket chart. That way students can see what they are missing. When they turn in the work, they mark their name off the list.

I've used it for the past three years, and it's the best thing that I've used.

I really like this idea. I wonder if it would work with as young as 4th grade. Would you happen to have a sample of the page you use? A template? Or is it basically just three columns (date/assignment/reason)?

Hmm, this also sounds like a great organizational tool! So what do the numbers on top of each column signify?

Thank you for your help! Your kids are fortunate to have a teacher with such a well laid-out system. :)

It's basic four columns: date, assignment, reason, late. The "late" column is to indicate whether it was turned in later or never turned in.

    Those are the class periods.

But if anyone is bored & wants to help me out, I'm attempting to do a non-winter (ie., year-round) Penguins theme :)
