Tomorrow is my interview for the 6th grade social studies position. Its in the same school district that I interviewed for the high school position. I really feel this position is a great fit for me, so I hope I'm able to make the right impression. I find interviewing hard, because my mind tends to drift when I'm answering the questions. I have been looking over curriculum, interview questions, and even got my hair cut today. I think I have found answers to the questions that stumped me the other day. Am I ready? I don't know how I can be ready. But, I'm in better shape than I've been for other interviews. I just hope I know what to say.

Oh, and I'm wearing a dress that I feel great in, a royal blue jacket dress made of a flowing crepy material with a flirty sheer short sleeve jacket.

Thanks for all your help on this board.

The interview went well. I got there about 15 minutes early and talked with the secretary. We actually had a conversation. She seemed so nice. The school is very nice. There were about 6-7 ladies in the interview. I felt comfortable with all of them, but I think I talked way too fast. I was more stumped on the technology and classroom questions with this school, but I think she understood what I said. One of the teachers even said she could see I had several passions for subjects to teach. I have always wondered if I did, and I guess it did show. One of the teachers asked what other electives I might want to teach if I had the opportunity. I mentioned choir, band, german (although I know its not a class for the grade), but I forgot to mention tech apps. I did later, and she said that it was obvious that I liked technology. I feel good about it, I'm smiling, etc. One question I thought about asking was "why would I want my third grader to come to your school", but I didn't ask it. However, the third grade teacher said something like "we have an awesome third grade here". I hope I did well enough that they consider me. It is an easy drive there, if I need or want to, I can probably take my son with me.

Oh, and at the end of the interview, I handed them a packet that had my resume, letters of reference, transcripts, my little substitute business card and a overview and final report on my focus group from my library science coursework. I told them it was a writing sample and a good idea of what I will go through to get something done. It has a journal entry from the hassles we went through to make the website we were working on "live" for the kids in the group.

I'm glad you didn't ask that question. On a hiring committee, we want to know that our candidates have researched our school, know our philosophy of teaching and know why they would want to teach there (or have their kid go there).

    Good luck!

    Update

Well, I got the letter yesterday. I didn't get the job. I'm pretty bummed about it. I was pretty sure that I didn't get it when the postings went down off the website the next day and I had not been called. I did find another position close by that I applied for and he is supposed to be making interview decisions today, so maybe I will get called for that. It's 7th grade SS and its north of my son's school which is in the right direction. I also know a teacher at one of the elementary schools there. So, we'll see. I have the option of taking Clinical Teaching this year. I think I'm going to try to sign up for it for the Spring semester, so that I can substitute during the fall. I have to pay $750 to do it, then the remainder of my program fee, which is very steep, within a period of time, but I'd be Certified when I finish it.
