So I was told this year that I would be moving from my classroom to the classroom next door. At first I was devastated as the room I was in was the first room I ever taught in and had grown very fond of it. I've spent the past week shuffling all of my things from one room to the next and sitting on the floor staring at the furniture wondering how on earth I was going to make everything work (I don't know how teachers move across the school...moving right next door was a hassle). After a week of hard labor I have to admit I'm in love with my new room! Here are some pictures I took of it before I left today. I will come back and update after I have finished organizing and decorating the room (I still have lots to do!!). I am open to any suggestions you guys may have about how to use the space :p

Edit: The pictures came out fuzzy because I took them on my cell phone

This is a view from the door. You can see the SmartBoard and our aquarium on the opposite wall.

Here are the students' desks. I'm doing a crayon theme this year so I'm identifying their tables by Red, Yellow, and Blue. I still don't have my class list so I don't know if I'll be needing to add more desks!!

Here is my dry erase board. I've placed a small shelf beneath it to store our math manipulatives. My guided reading table is next to the pocket chart (which is currently covered with junk lol).

My favorite part of the classroom, the library! I still have to put the books in the bins. I got the basket and label idea from Beth Newingham's site.

You've done a lot of work to make this one "yours." I'll bet you're proud of yourself!

I love your room! What are those pencils next to your smartboard? What do they display?

The pencils next to the SmartBoard are a pocket chart. For now, I placed the steps of the writing process on it but I only did that because I was tired and antsy to go home lol I will place the steps on a wall and probably use the pencil pocket chart to do interactive activities with the kiddos :)

Your room looks great! What a nice opportunity to have a fresh start in a new room and you've done a great job making it welcoming for the new students :)

I got mine from an educational store here in Florida called Get Smart, but it's made by Carson Dellosa. I will look for it online and post a link to it for you if you are interested in purchasing it

Edit: It seems to have been discontinued. I found it at this site, however I've never ordered from them so I don't know how reliable they are.

How did you get such a fabulous desk & armoire set? They are beautiful! All teachers get here is a horrid little government issue desk & chair - both uncomfortable and not really doing the job! LOL

I'm sorry about your desk!!! I work for a charter school and every classroom has that desk/armoire/bookshelf set. The wood can get kind of annoying because you can get splinters from it! I cover the top of it in an apple print cloth. As for the armoire, it can store A LOT of stuff but it also takes up lots of space. One year a teacher even got termites in hers!!! I guess everything has it's pros and cons lol

I shop at the Get Smart in Kendall. If they don't have what I'm looking for I'll go to the one on US-1. Occasionally, I'll drive up to Davie to go to Ace Educational Superstore (it's by far the best teacher supply store I've ever been to)! I work at Doral Academy Elementary. How about you?

Yknow...I went there once and I didn't really like it. I thought their selection wasn't that good. Maybe I went on a bad day?
