Note: I have not seen a contract or been told my salary- so this could very well go away... The room is huge! The only storage is the closet and the few cupboards.
Wow! I'm super jealous of all your classroom space, though it would be really nice if there was more storage. Hopefully you will be allocated some money to spend on getting set up with things you will need. There's definitely room for a carpet/meeting area in there!
It looks really big! You can probably get cheap bookcases for storage around the outside of the room.
Same here. None of the rooms in my current building have storage. None at all. At my last school, I had about four damaged lockers... which turns out to be just about the the same thing as having no storage. You can make do with rolling cabinets, plastic drawers, bookshelves, etc. And, I've come to realize that it's okay to have a stack of plastic bins in the corner, if that's what's necessary. I would love to have your room!! As I said, I have zero storage in my current room, and it is about 1/3 the size of that room. I do teach resource as opposed to a regular class. However, I often have two (and occasionally three) groups going on at once, and I have a lot of stuff to store, considering my room houses a lot of the sped department shared materials. I can't wait to see what you do with all the space!
About 15-20 years ago the building was the county health department. A charter school bought it, opened in 1999 and closed in 2012. The charter I (potentially) work for bought it. I've always been mad that offices are nicer than many schools. Well, now I get a room in a former office building! There are 2 doors and it honestly could be split into two rooms! I'm honestly panicking about the fact that I only have 2 baby bulletin boards. I like having a bulletin board behind my desk to tack important things to. Other than that, I guess I can do everything on the wall....
Awesome space! Two years ago I had a tiny portable with no storage or bulletin boards. Grab some butcher paper, or fabric, and some border and create your own boards! I loved it because I could adjust the size as needed. I also learned to be very picky with what I kept because of the storage issue. I am no longer a classroom pack rat!
I've hot glued foam board to the wall at my old school. I'm just worried that it may be a no-no here...
Wow...awesome room! I can't wait to see how it looks when you are done. The lack of storage would be an issue for me, but being able to start out from scratch is pretty cool.
Would love a room that big but the first thing I would ask for is to have those mold covered ceiling tiles replaced.
My room isn't done. It's even missing a ceiling tile. I'm ASSUMING that one will get replaced. At least switched out with one in a room we are not using.
