Today was my last day with my AP Gov. students. These are all seniors who I have had before. Many of them I've had for a few other courses. 4 or 5 of them I've had since they have been Freshman. They threw me a goodbye party complete with pizza, cake, and gifts. I cried at the end of class as I said goodbye to these great kids. It's going to be so hard for me to leave this school after 25 years. Graduation and the last day will also be water works.

I didn't realize you were retiring! What are your plans (after you leave these wonderful students)?

What a wonderful thoughtful gift your students bestowed on you today. It makes you want at least one more day.

I think he's not retiring, cut, but going off to help launch another school.

Ah, Brendan. These are the memories that warm your heart when things get rough.

Any sort of "Commencement" is hard, but it's twice as hard when both you and the kids are leaving.

Brendan, how sweet. These definitely are some bittersweet moments, but you and the students are off to bigger and better adventures.

I have my students as juniors and seniors, we get very close and it is always hard to say goodbye. However, this last group of seniors was a phenomenal group of students and I cried on my last day with them, too.

Your students are lucky to have you.

Had my last days with mine on Thursday and Friday. As is tradition, I brought them homemade chocolate chip cookies (courtesy of DH), read them "Oh, the Places You'll Go!" by Dr. Seuss, and cried.

Today is my annual pool party for my grads. They come over in the afternoon after grad practice to swim, eat pizza and cake, and try to beat me at Scrabble. Graduation is Thursday night; lots of hugs and a few tears there too.

That sounds like fun, Mrs.K! I had a teacher in HS that used to invite students over for chinese food and a Shakespeare movie once a semester. Unfortunately, I'm sure that's a no-no in someone's book, but it sure was fun.

Brendan, I am so excited for your future! It's really tough to walk away from a school that's made you happy. How wonderful that they're keeping it on such positive terms. Please keep us in the loop as you work on setting up the new school.

I have some 8th graders going to the high school next year whom I've taught since 6th grade. It definitely tugs on my heart strings! Especially ones who have asked me to sign their yearbooks. :)

We are having a party at my house for the Seniors (and a few selected under classmen) during the first week of the summer. There is a going away party for me which I am not supposed to know about next week. I am going to miss this school and so many of my colleagues. I am luck though that a few of my friends have applied for jobs at my new school (I have nothing to do with hires for this year) and have been accepted. The SS Department Chair is my good friend Ariel. Claire and Julia have also decided to come on and will be teaching the Freshman and Sophomores in History.

    Wait just a minute:

Breden, you told me in PM that you were becoming a principal next year. You didn't say anything about retiring.
