Why did it do it? I am really upset...Spam was sent from my hotmail account to everyone on my contact list. I didn't do it...But, how did this happen?? Does anyone know? Does this mean someone has hacked into my system?

Yes, I think it means you were hacked. You need to change your password.

    :(

Once a spammer sent out a huge number of emails with mine listed as the return address. It was awful. I don't think they actually sent anything from my account, and none of my contacts got anything, but it was a hassle for sure.

This happened to me about 6 weeks ago or so; I sent out a bunch of apology emails, changed my password and am keeping my fingers crossed.

That happened to me about a year ago, some of the people it sent spam to I hadn't spoken to in years. I sent out an appology e-mail saying not to open the spam and I would handle it.

I then changed my password not just on that e-mail account, but on anything that went to that account. Make your password stronger by using both capital and lower case letters and numbers.

Since I changed everthing I have not had a problem.

This happened to me. I finally had a former coworker email me and ask me if my second job was selling Viagra! It was sent to all my state education department contacts, which was pretty embarrassing. I didn't send out an email because I know they know it's spam, but I did change my password.

Hotmail is one of the more... susceptible email providers.

My yahoo account just did this today! I couldn't see how many it sent it to from work, but my sister said it wasn't very many.

Mine too. DH called while I was on the road and asked why I had stopped to send him an e-mail without a subject line on my way to school. It was a link to a Viagra ad and the security software picked it up as a virus.

I changed the password and sent out an apology. I also changed the settings so that I have to log in each time.

Oh boy. This must be a growing trend. I thought it was obvious that it was spam, but I did get a couple of emails asking if I had sent it.

Oh yes, guys, don't have it remember you. Sites can steal that cookie with the password in it.

Same thing happened to me in like August......it sent an email to EVERYONE! Every principal and HR person I had applied to, my parents, everyone....all got an email to buy cheap viagra! How embarrassing....I realized right away bc of the mailer damon email I recieved saying some of the email addresses were no longer vailid, I spent time googling and it seems that these hackers hacked into the yahoo server, and it was common. I changed my password and hoped for the best.

That happened to me too. Changed my password and every account that linked to that email. I also changed my email and no longer use hotmail. I informed everyone I know that if they receive and email from my old account, just delete it.

I was told to change your password frequently.
