Hi Everyone So I had one of those days. Working in the High School "Building Trades" vocational class, they were left worksheets and a video. No big deal, until 3rd period.... I had 3 boys in class that have at other times and in various classes been cantankerous, defiant and disrespectful - but nothing I couldn't handle until today. There was just no gaining control, they were throwing things and once i confiscated all the objects being thrown, they threw a water bottle and cracked the classroom window. Well when I was over there trying to literally pick up the pieces, one of them hit me with a paper wad. So I turned around and said Alright. It's been enough. and I called the principal in. Anyway. What would you have done? For what it's worth, the principal said he was glad I called him and this was serious enough for that.
You did the right thing. You gave them a chance to calm down and they didn't. I would have called after they broken the window. It's crazy they are acting like that. I'm sorry you had a bad day.
And nobody ever talks about students ABUSING teachers even though we KNOW it happens! People treat children like they're these precious little angels who could do no wrong... UGH! THIS is what happens when there's no real tangible consequences to students' actions. They become little Hell -raiser demons and do whatever they want. It's insane. For sure, calling the principal. To me straight up disrespect and defiance (I'm NOT doing this) shouldn't even require any interventions; it should be straight to the office with you. If you're off- task I can easily redirect, but if you crumple up your page and throw it on the floor or push the book off the table in protest... AAH HELL NA!... That drives me CRAZY! And more and more kids seem to be doing that these days. I was subbing today in SPED (which was a MESS, there's like NO management... the bar is set so low in expectations and the kids walk all over the TA's, you can tell, ) we were downstairs trying to do directions using a map & some of the kids were like, "We're going back upstairs now. We're tired of this!" I was like EXCUSE ME?! Kids today think that THEY run the show and it drives me up the f*!*!**!*! wall!
I would have called the resource officer. A broken window is considered criminal mischief, here in Texas criminal mischief occurring on a school or higher education facility could be charged as a state jail felony.
You seem to often turn your back or get distracted. I probably wouldn't have went over to pick up any pieces and called IMMEDIATELY. Don't give them a chance to do things with your back turned.
The officer did come in and wait until principal came! I'm glad it's over, but yeah I shouldn't have turned my back for even a micro second. Sigh
I would have been pretty frazzled myself. I'm so thankful I don't work with high school kids anymore. Some of them are just despicable. There's no reason they should treat ANY adult that way.
Where are the parents? Don't parents realize that in a couple of years their little angels (?) are going to be trying to get a job? If they can even work up enough references to get a job, are they going to throw things at their supervisor and break windows there? Let's see how long they'll keep their job.
Yes, that may be true, but on the other hand, it's not your fault that they behaved like jerks. It's their responsibility to be responsible. At that age, they shouldn't need a nanny!
I agree. At that age, you really should be able to turn your back. Most of human history has proven that age can be responsible enough. Those kids have a serious problem if they have to be babysat.
You did one thing seriously wrong . Afterwards , you need to treat yourself . Ice cream , a salon , chocolate , whatever . Better yet , have someone else treat you .
It should never have gotten to that point. You need to take some classes in management. I hope it works out for you.
I'm sorry. Subbing is very difficult. I'm thinking I might sub when I'm going back to school next year for extra money so I might have similar things to look forward to. I wonder how my experience will factor into that.
Milsey, you have gone from the "silly, controversial, stirring the pot but in an entertaining way, can't hate you for anything you say" type of poster to one that is very judgmental, and not at all helpful. Bring the old Milsey back!! Bitter much?
I don't remember her ever being entertaining. She's pretty much always been trolling, which is what she is doing here. I think maybe she's changed some of her tactics (and targeting newer members) because we've started to ignore her.
I don't know, some of the things she said was just funny, because you knew it wasn't real. Not so much annoying or offensive, it was more like "she's baaaack"
