A fireplace...now that's something you can't get in a new school building!
What are the handprints on your letter posters?
that is an awesome room...wow...
however, as a middle school teacher, there is one thing in your room that is one of my biggest pet peeves....your shapes, you have a rhombus called a diamond...i know, that's and easier name and whatever for the kinder kids...but maaaaaaaaan is it hard when they get older to reteach that its called a rhombus
but very cool room...i thought my building was old, but yours is definitely older..love the fireplace.
Thats our alphabet. We use open court phonics and they set up it a but differently. We teach them an alphabet chant and when they see the hands they clap. This way they stop and don't rush through the letters Such L,M,N,O,P. It works and they like it. On the other side are pictures to go with a rhyme. For instance for the letter S the rhyme is about sizzling sausages. We turn the cards over as we introduce them. We work on identifying all of the letters 1st and then the letter sounds. The kids get very excited when I turn over a new letter.
Gotcha. Makes sense!
Your room looks huge!!!!!!!!!!!! Love that fireplace! The room looks very inviting, warm and friendly!
Your room is awesome. Love it.
Nice room Kim..........a nice home away from home for those little ones!
I love your room! So colorful and inviting! I use the oc reading program in my first grade and love it! Thanks for the tip about the hands on the cards. We sing the ABC song the same way but without the visual cue. I'm going to cut handprints out tomorrow!
If the hands weren't there I wouldnt remember where to stop! I am def a visual learn myself.
Thanks everyone. The room still looks pretty blank to me. We just started school yesterday. I am sure the next few weeks it will be filled as I hang up all their work.
love the room.. where in nj u from? How do you do your word wall?

I sent you a private message to let you know where I work.
For my word wall I add words slowly. First I put their names up. Next I will use color words. I add sight words as we learn them. When they aren't sure how to spell something I tell them to look there. I used to do word wall activities but didn't last year. I am going to try and do them more this year.
The room looks great... I absolutely love the fireplace. How cool.

I was wondering if you had trouble with noise level....because of your high ceilings....acoustics?? I was in a very old school last year and I had a huge room with 12ft high ceilings and the noise just bounced around the room....that part of my room was awful!
Your rooms has such old school character...I do miss that about my old room. It looks wonderful!!!
I don't have any trouble with the noise level. I actually wear a microphone when I teach too.
